DH and I were talking earlier about how different Bentley’s life is compared to all of our other dogs. Ky was outside so without thinking I was waving my hands around while I spoke. We both had a light bulb moment at the same time…Bentley didn't duck or flinch.
We put together a list of things Bentley doesn't know. I thank God that he will never know these things!

10 Things that Bentley doesn't know.

1- To duck his head when I speak with my hands (never been hit)
2- The weight of a chain around his neck.
3- The feel of a baseball bat against his body.
4- Hunger pains.
5- That not all people are nice.
6- How to find his own shelter when it’s 10 F
7- The pain of fleas eating on him
8- Loneliness
9- Terror
10- That he’s living the dream

No dog should know any of those and so sadly too many do. I wish Ky had never known those either but even though she will probably never forget completely she is living the dream also now and it is all because of you.

Joyce I have tears in my eyes, I never knew those things about Ky. Your dogs are truly blessed to have such a wonderful family. The stories I have read recently about animal abuse over here is absolutely shocking. I think we all are so grateful that there are wonderful people like you who adopt these poor dogs and show them that not all humans are bad. Thank you for sharing this.

Thank the Lord but my herd will never learn these either. Made a sick spot in my stomach as I realise that many other pets WILL.

I love this! I don't have any rescue dogs (Charlie is my first dog!) but I do have two rescue cats. The older one, Jinx, was abused before I got her and acts just like Ky. She runs upstairs whenever someone walks into the room, and cries (not hisses, CRIES) anytime she is picked up. So sad and infuriating to think of what could've possibly been done to her to make her like this. But through it all she is so loving and cuddly - she's finally warming up to Adam after 2.5 years! Here's Jinx and Toby at Christmas, Jinx is the black kitty of course!

Poppy is a rescue but she obviously was well cared for before she was left at the shelter. You could tell she was a happy dog that had been given an "education" already.

I rescued two cats however and one of them probably knew all that Ky knows. You have to be very understanding and respectful with those animals.

Again, thank you for showing Ky that love and kindness exist.

p.s. You posted something about Ky being protective of Bentley at the mall. After reading this post, I think it's just normal and altruistic of her to do so. Super Ky!

Thank you all, it brings a tear to my eye also but happy tears to realize that Bentley is a lucky guy, he just will never have to realize that.
