Talk me down! I'm 3 weeks from getting my new puppy. I've been looking forward to it for a long while. And while waiting, I've been interested in reading about everyone else's posts about their puppies. The thing is, so many of the posts and threads are about nightmarish experiences! Behavior problems, dangers, health problems, biting, destruction, sleepless nights, the list goes on and on. You only have to scan the thread titles in this sub-forum and in the main forum to be bombarded with a parade of little canine horribles. Everywhere there are threads about frightening, frustrating, maddening, challenging, terrible things involving puppies! So, what was a positive, happy anticipation of a loving addition to the family has been transformed into anxious trepidation about what unseen horrors await me. Is it too late to get my deposit back?

The best part of all is watching them grow and mature. Like a frog turning into a prince...(although Bridget's a girl) What you need to have is determination, and dedication. Puppy classes, exercise....

LOL! Other than one really bad, bitey, chewey obnoxious day....Sage has brought more joy and fun into my life in the last week. I was actually just about to post how proud of her I was. Until this morning she has been accident free for days...and it was totally my fault. She went to the door and whined and I didn't get my sleepy arse off the couch in time... She has sit down pat now, except outside and we are currently working on "off" as she loves to try and get on the couch to get at the cat or our other dog...next we will work on down, we tried it some but she doesn't keep her bum on the ground...so silly... Yes I read all those threads too and had a moment or two or 10 of wth am I getting myself into...But I wouldn't trade this for anything. She loves her belly rubbed, loves to lay on my feet, loves to try and chew my slippers but will stop if I tell her NO! We have had NO tummy, poop or eating issues...she loves to be outdoors, which at 9 degrees and a wind chill factor of 0 or below...isn't my idea of fun. I blocked off our deck so she can't get off of it unless I let her..she will spend about 10 minutes out there playing often....I can watch her from my 70 degree home through the sliding glass door.... Honestly I'm loving my experience, but as when I was raising my boys I do get frustrated at times and remove myself for a few minutes...I'm glad I can come here and vent...I'm thinking, though, that maybe a few more "good" posts might be in order....

Shadow may have his moments when he's evil with a dog face - but nothing beats coming home from work to a puppy wagging his tail like crazy, climbing into my lap and giving me kisses because he's so happy I'm home. No matter how bad my day is or how I feel, all I need to do is get some puppy snuggles and I feel so much better.

We are 5 days away from getting our puppy and for the last week and a half I swear I'm having nightmares every night! I'm also terribly excited because getting a second dog is something that I want, but the prospect of deliberately messing up our established lives with a few months of puppy terror is definitely causing me worry and doubt. I feel whenever I'm extra stressed, like with the holidays, etc, I feel the most scared about the puppy. I just have to tell myself, "this is what you want, and the puppy isn't going to be a puppy forever. So just wo(man) up for a few months and you'll get an amazing family member at the other end of it!" Plus puppy breath and the way they lay their little sleepy heads on your shoulder as you carry them out to potty in the middle of the night makes up for 99.99% of their devil dawg days.

It seems like since getting Charlie, all that I've posted to this forum is problems and questions, BUT - Charlie is the biggest joy that I've ever known, and even though he's only been home for 3 weeks, I can't imagine life without him. He's the first thing I take care of when I wake up and the last on my mind before I go to sleep. It might sound weird, but I dream about him almost every night. On my drive home from work, I get giddy thinking about being reunited in just a few minutes. I love the adoring look on his face when I walk into a room, and the sad little whine when I walk out. I melt when he chooses to come to me over chasing a leaf, and I beam with pride when friends and family fawn over how smart and handsome he is. My theory is that I only post here with issues because I don't want to interrupt Charlie when he's being an angel! *Takes break from typing to look at cute pictures of Charlie on my work computer* I'm sure as all the forum puppies get older and we new parents get adjusted, there will be more happy reports and less worried questions. Congrats on your upcoming arrival, and get some sleep now while you still can!
