Liberty's big scare

I took Liberty out in the yard this morning for a pee as I always do. We got a lot of snow Thursday and a little more overnight last night. So our next door neighbours have a "smoking tent" as we call it. It's one of those temporary garage shelters that they have put up at the back of their house so they can go outside and smoke in the cold/snow/rain. Well Liberty has never even paid any attention to it. So this morning, the man must have been in the "tent" and his little chihuahua was barking at Lib (nothing abnormal). Well he yelled at his dog to stop a few times and it continued barking. Then he slammed his fist down on the table and made a loud bang and yelled at it to stop. So it stopped. Liberty was a little taken aback by this loud bang. Then I finally convinced her to go over to the far side of the yard (her potty area) and the neighbour decided to clear the snow off the roof of his "tent". He was whacking it from the inside and lifting it up so the snow would roll off. WELL! this sent Liberty packing. She was cowering in the corner of the yard absolutely terrified. I could not, for the life of me, convince her that it was nothing to be scared of. She finally ran to the door and wanted in. She's been hiding and whining for about an hour. I finally convinced her to go out for a walk around the block and she's a little better now. Still going to the patio door and whimpering once in a while. I know it's normal for pups in the teen stage to go through these periods of fear. How long will this whimpering last for and will I ever get her out in the yard again? I was thinking about going out in a while and playing ball with her to make it a positive experience again. She loves chasing her ball!:crossfing

Um, okay, NOW she just went up to my daughter's bedroom and had diarrhea all over the floor. This is NOT like Liberty. She has NOT messed in the house since she was 10 weeks old. I guess she is really terrified of the backyard now :(

I have no suggestion for the diarrhea, but making her go out and then playing ball with her is a good idea. I'm sorry she was frightened.

So sorry this happened to your girl. I can relate, I have a neighbor that is always banging around or has some very loud power tool going in his large workshop he built.
Although this doesn't compare to what your neighbor did, I had some problems with my boy not wanting to go back outside.

I took him out and played ball with him as soon as my neigbhor was finished, I haven't had any more problems with him since and my neighbor always doing something in his workshop.

Hope Libbie's diarrhea clears up soon, it may have been brought on from the stress and scare. If not, I'd call your Vet.

Oh, poor thing. I hope she feels better soon. The only thing I can suggest is maybe taking her for another walk to try to calm her down and get her away from the area. Play with her and stuff.
Does she normally get that scared of things? I've seen dogs get scared, but not usually over loud noises and never that bad. Maybe she needs to be exposed to loud things more to reassure her that she has nothing to fear.

She actually had to go out at 6:30 a.m. which is very early for her, and it was well before the neighbour episode happened. She had a bit of diarrhea then so I don't think the diarrhea is entirely from the fright. BUT I do think she had to go and was scared to be out in the yard, so she held it in for as long as she could. Poor baby. She's resting now by the front door.

A smoking tent? Might be a sign that it's time to quit when you have to erect a temporary building to smoke in.

Look at the bright side. At least your neighbor attempts to stop his dog from barking. My neighbor couldn't care less about her annoying Cocker Spaniel barking and lunging at the fence when Bella is close to the property line. I've had to reach over the fence and shoo her dog away on multiple occasions with her standing right there.

I'm sure Liberty will be fine.

Well she has had diarrhea all day. Really runny and about every 1/2 hour. UGH. We haven't had this happen since she was a lot smaller. I caught her eating something in the yard yesterday, looked like poop. But I pick hers up right away, so it must have been from a racoon or cat or something. I am assuming that is what's making her sick :(
