I have a small dilemma that I'm not sure how to handle, looking for advice. The way things normally work here since both dogs want to spend time with DH on the couch, Ky gets her time with him first, always. Bentley understands this and he's really good about occupying himself with toys until Ky gets down.

Since DH broke his arm it seems that both dogs know it and they both want to be on the couch with him at the same time. So far I've been keeping to the rules and only allow Ky up there first. The problem is, she doesn't get down then Bentley gets impatient and tries to front Ky off about it.

I understand that he wants his time with daddy too and Ky is hogging him but how do I handle this? Should I make Ky get down after a period of time so Bentley can have his turn?

We're doing so well with the dogs now so I don't want to screw this up. It's times like this that I get so confused after spending my life with only one dog at a time.

I think I'd call Ky into another part of the house to for one-on-one time with you and give Bentley a shot at dad. Would preclude any confrontation.

But I hope your husband feels looooovvveed.

Thanks, DH loves having them up there with him. Ky just doesn't want to give Bentley his fair time right now and I wasn't sure if I should make her.

I'll take her in the backroom for a good belly rub..she loves that

I think Outwest is on the money spend some alone time with Ky in another room while Bentley is with you DH. hope your hubby feels better soon!

Well I took Ky in for a belly rub and she's so obsessed about daddy she wouldn't even let me. I can't wait for his cast to come off!

what about moving DH in the other room and rotating the dogs... maybe take Ky for a walk with Bentley gets some daddy loving

Thanks, that's a good idea! I'll take Ky for a walk alone tomorrow so Bentley gets daddy time. Not tonight though, it's 12:30 and 20 degrees

Is there not a way that they can both be on either side of him on the couch?? Dog loving x2 would be an excellent help to his healing process I'm sure

What about giving Ky a Kong with peanut butter? Or buying her a bone, one that is hollow and can easily stuff PB in it. It becomes her nightly ritual, she gets dad to herself, gets her bone and her mind is easily occupied. No confrontations with Bentley.
