Help - Shadow Greets People By Biting Their Clothing

Hi Everyone -

So Shadow's newest bad behavior is greeting people by biting their clothing. Just this morning my Mom came down for breakfast and he started jumping on her and biting her sweater. The other night, he bit my aunt's jacket and scarf. I tell him no and make him have a "time out" - but I'm not getting through to him. He does this to random strangers on the street too (when they come up to pet him - even though I make him sit and wait before they are allowed to pet him).

Any ideas?

(I think we're in the terrible twos!!!)

Thanks!

When Alli misbehaves in the house, I put her on a leash. She has wonderful leash manners and the moment the leash comes out she comes to me immediately and sits pretty waiting for me to put it on. Once it is on, she becomes another dog. She wore it all day Christmas day in the house while the families were coming and going and never once misbehaved. The leash also gives me a little more control over what she can and can't do in the house and with guests. Maybe it is a magic leash.

We taught Kasey to greet with a toy in her mouth. She used to bite at our clothes or hands. We stuck a toy in her mouth every time she got excited. We didn't pay attention to her unless she held her toy in her mouth and if she dropped it we would walk away from her. Now all we have to do is say toy and she quickly grabs one. When everybody gets up in the morning she runs for a toy. Sometimes she grabs whatever is around usually a slipper or shoe. :-)

Pretty normal puppy behavior, she'll out grow it. My Maggie (RIP) always greeted people with a toy in her mouth, I loved that about her.

Thanks everyone - I think he's going through a phase. It's just an annoying phase! Haha. We're working with him and we'll probably take him back to training soon. He's clearly needs a refresher - he's gone from star of the class to completely ignoring everything he learned. Haha.

Brooks doesn't usually do this, I say usually because he did do it once....
I have a friend who I usually see away from my home, but one time she came to see me at my house. She dresses exquisitely and of course Brooks picked this time to "greet" someone by pulling on the sleeve of her beautiful outfit (I had a hard time getting him to stop). She was very good natured about it, but who would like that?
