Is it bad for your dog to eat and then start playing (running, fetching, jumping ect.) after they eat? What about eating, then going for say a mile walk? I don't know, someone just told me that they shouldn't do anything strenuous right after eating and wanted to see what you all thought. I know nothing about bloat and this is my first dog.

I'd wait at least an hour after eating before playing or exercising. I'm not sure what the real risk is for bloat, but why take the chance?

Dogs have died from bloat. It's most common in large breeds. Tucker is my first Golden and I hadn't heard of it before I got him either. Worth educating yourself about, then modifying your feeding-playing-drinking schedule accordingly. And worth being very observant about.

Sonny, the black lab, ran ahead to make sure there were no gophers or jackrabbits in the way. If you don't give a dog a specific job, he'll improvise one for himself and it will invariably be fun. There's a lesson there.

I've never seen that chart, wow! thank you so much for helping me out. I'm a little paranoid now but will certainly take every precaution i can to avoid bloat. On a side note: She's eating eukanuba puppy kibble which according to the chart on the bag she should be eating 1 1/2 cups 3X a day. That just seems like A LOT of kibble to me. Which kinda scares me about the bloat. Should i possibly look into a kibble where she doesn't have to eat such a large quantity of food?

One more thing: I'm seriously so paranoid now after reading to leave water in her crate after i feed her and leave in the morning. Any words of wisdom for me?

I use a hamster type water bottle in Vinnie's crate. He can wet his whistle without drinking a lot of water.
