Afraid of her food bowl

I got our little Milla stainless steel food and water since they seemed to be the most recommended. She is afraid of them. I don’t know if the reflection freaks her out or what. She has been ok for the most part with the water one, but wont eat out of the food one unless she is really hungry. If her tag hits the dish or she pushes it against the water bowl and it makes the clang sound, she goes running.

Please tell me she will grow out of this.

Try taking her collar off for eating.

Some of our dog tags have a rubber edging that you can apply to dull the sound of the tags hitting the bowl (and my husband sleeps better when they have them on too).

Try using a smaller bowl - her eyes will be above the rim and she can see that there is no one around her.

You could also condition her to the sound of the tags hitting the bowls. Take her collar off, hit the side of the bowl with the tags and give her a treat. It won't take long until she associates that sound with something good. You may need to toss a treat in her bowl when the tags hit the bowl - just until she makes the connection of the sound while she is eating. Slowly back off to a treat every other sound, then every thrid, etc. And treats can be very small pieces of anything she likes.

Yay! She isn't afraid of them anymore. We used some plastic ones for a while next to the metal ones. Then we put some wet food in the metal ones and she ate it right up. Now she is eating her regular kibble and drinking water out of them just fine :)
