What kind of puppy food? Hi, I am new to this forum. This is our third golden our first was 20 yrs ago and second was 12 yrs ago. Our second dog had a lot of health issuers and died at a young age of 7. It broke our hearts. We have waited 5 years to get another puppy and are loving him so much. My question is what kind of puppy food do you all recommend? We have Joey now on Acana Puppy. The breader had him on Nutra but he had the "runs" so much I have switched him. He seamed to be doing ok but now just had another go with the runs for three days. Took him to the vet and have him on special formula for a few days. I just went through so much with our second dog with allergies and such bad health......I worry! Want to make sure that Joey is eating good food. Really been out of the loop on what's out and available. Would love some advice. Should mention that Joey is a chewer of everything!! So he could have got into something....never had such a chewer before...wow. Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new puppy Joey! I wish you well in your search for the best food. There are so many good choices. Vinnie has never had any trouble with diarrhea so I can't help much. Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App

Did you rule out coccidia? Our Bertie is eating Pro Plan Chicken and Rice Puppy. Per the breeder. <- He will eat that for the next couple months or so. He's not been sick nor had any loose stool. Last edited by Megora; 12-01-2012 at 10:51 PM.

Hi we too have had a lot of tummy issues , Carly is 11 weeks and so far has been on meds since we brought her home for diahrrea . It helps instantly but when she finished her first round it came back instantly, she needs to get off the meds. We had her on rice and chicken for a week and it was hard to pick a dog food. We decided on blue wilderness it's grain free preservative free etc etc but it has been really good for her. We still have to see what will happen when she stops taking her pills but hoping this will not be an issue. It's a very hard process picking a good food and overwhelming at the pet store with so much choice but this is one that works for us so far , we will see. Good luck , one more question have you been to the vet and had her stool tested for parasites ? Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App

hello and welcome =) Puppies in general have sensitive stomach's some more than others. I happen to be in that category of very sensitive stomachs, chester was on purina pro plan and we switched to Fromm but it was to rich for his stomach and he got very bad diarrhea. Today we picked up a bag of natures balance to try out since Petco didn't have any Purina pro plan rice and chicken so im hoping he does well on this one since the protein isn't as high.

I think I had the opposite problem from you. Mine were on Acana LB puppy and were constantly getting "the runs" and I had to switch them back to Nutro Ultra which they had been on before. Has the vet ruled out giardia and coccidia? There are a lot of good foods out there, and the best food out there is the one that agrees with your puppy, you comfortable with the ingredients and it works in your budget

Thanks so much for your replies. The vet has tested Joey for different things and all are ok. I guess we will have to just try different food till we get one that works. Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App

With a sensitive tummy, I was wondering if I should switch to a lamb based dog food, I have been trying to fine one that maybe is also grain free but am having trouble. Everything it seems is chicken..... Does anyone know of a lamb dog food. I see that Nutra has one but we were on the Nutra puppy and that didn't work. I'm going to the pet food store today and see what the recommend. He also inhales his food so would like a larger kibble so he will be forced to chew......I never had any of these problems before so this is just baffling me.

Our breeder starts her pups out on Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream puppy food, which we are going to continue with since we see no reason to change it up once we get her home. Healthy Pet Foods For Dogs Puppies Cats and Kittens - Taste Of The Wild Pet Food Not exactly what you asked for, but I noticed the High Prairie formula has bison as the first ingredient and lamb as the second, and I believe all the formulas are grain free.
