Hello everybody. This is my first post and I wanted to introduce Spike. He's our 10 week old puppy. Until now, we've only had cats. This is our first dog. We're quite overwhelmed.

Welcome to the forum. Spike is a handsome pup. They are a lot of work for the first year but then you get to reap the benefits. Keep the pictures of your boy coming.

Spike is a handsome boy. The first few weeks, as you all get used to one another, are both wonderful & hard. More than once, I wondered if we had made a mistake, & i know my husband did think we had made one. It had been four years since we had had a puppy, & we were so tired from less sleep, & not being able to just sit & relax in the evening, & getting up when it was dark & cold. And the chewing & the mouthing. But little by little it gets easier ....the late nights & early mornings become a way of life lol ....& it gets better. Daily training at home & attending puppy classes once he has had all his vaccinations, are all great things to do with your new puppy. I started clicker training with Loki at eight weeks old & it really is a fun time & a great bonding time too. Loki is now 17 weeks old & we cannot imagine life without him. It will be like that for you too.

He is so cute!! You made a great choice getting a golden retriever as your first dog! They are the best!! :-) Can't wait to watch Spike grow up with your updates!! :-)

It's unusually warm today, so I decided to grab my Kindle and take Spike out for some leisure time in the backyard. It was glorious! I was wearing a sweatshirt and still feeling warm, on December 2, in South Dakota. Spike was busy playing with a ball and rolling around in the grass. It was really fun, until I smelled something bad when Spike came over by me. What was that stuff all over his back thigh? Yep… he was rolling around in a pile of his own poop.

At least it was warm enough to use the garden hose to clean him up outside. LOL
