I use an airline crate for my dachshund when he is in the car. He gets car sick and he also does not want to stay put.

Hi Jim, Congrats on your new golden. I actually have two brands to recommend.

I picked up my little guy, last February in Minnesota, and drove him back to Chicago in a Remington Soft-sided Collapsible Kennel http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0021R2I28/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00 $49.00. I also used it in the house some because it was much easier to move around room to room than his giant metal crate. I knew he would grow out of it quickly, but just felt it would be easier to manage and more portable to start. My mom drove with me and on the way home I sat in the back seat next to the crate which we had sitting on the other half of the back seats flopped down.

We next purchased the Noz2Noz by Firstrax and while I liked the Remington - I love the design of the Noz2Noz crate so much more. http://www.amazon.com/Firstrax-NOZTONOZ-Sof-Krate-Indoor-Outdoor/dp/B000P9TNLI I can't say enough good things about this crate and think its definitely been worth the money. Its really well designed. We went with the 36 inch size and still are using it today at 11.5 months (80 lbs) for most of our car trips - and I am thinking I might need to break down and get the 42 inch . They also sell this crate at Orvis.

one additional thing I would add - was that it is surprising how much a quick stop in the car can cause a crate to slide or worse tip when it has a young pup in it. On the way home from a first vet visit someone cut in front of me and I had to slam the brakes and the crate tipped halfway forward and was resting that way. I was mortified and while nothing bad happened. and it didn't seem to scare him - I know it could have just as easily been a lot worse - whether it was physical or behavioral "scars"........So make sure to put it in a space within your car so that is somewhat confined - and even do some "test" drives with it set up but empty - to make sure its in a safe spot. In my suv - its the cargo area with the back seats either up normally or only half folded down. OR even better secure it down - the Noz2Noz Crate has a flap with grommet attachments at each corner so that the crate can be secured down.

Congrats again!

I have the Noz2Noz one that was suggest above and I love it, too! I also have the 36 inch for my boy and he fits well in it. I wouldn't be able to fit a bigger crate in my little hatchback car anyway. This one I am lucky it fits, lol!

Thanks for this!
Question: would you use this crate in the house with a puppy? Or not because of their tendency to chew? I am trying to figure out what kind of crate to get that will fit SOMEWHERE in the house, and that will be fairly easy to move around.
