If reported, which I truly think you should do, your State/local ordinances will mandate what should be done with this dog and his owner.

Aw! I understand your feelings about it - I visit the same park daily and there are always incidents like that.

Re: black nose. Sydey had a scrape in the summer and it healed. We used Veticeryn.

Only took Mick to our dog park once. That was enough. He was a very passive dog and got the crap beat out of him while the other owners just sat and talked......oblivious to what was going on. Never again.
Something to think about. How does anybody know if the dogs at a park have had their vaccinations especially rabies. I know rules are posted but nitwit owners don't know how to read rules.
I would report this dog. The authorities will take the right avenue.
What if this pittie really harmed a dog in the future?
As a responsible dog owner I would think you have no choice but to report the dog.

This incident happened not in a dog park but an actual park - or at least that's how I read it - which means the owner should absolutely not be letting that dog run around off leash.

I was down at the ravine this morning and had mine off leash chasing the ball - and a man had 2 dogs on leash - and of course mine is running over to say hi - and he warned me his shepherd is not friendly - which was the responsible thing to do - and I had to lure mine away and it was a good reminder to me that I still don't have complete recall. If something had happened it would be my fault. We should have control of our dog, even the nice ones.

Owners need to walk their dogs so I get it, but responsible ones keep their aggressive ones on leash or even muzzled.

Has anybody tried to reason with the owner about being responsible? As its usually the dog that pays the price in these cases.

The incident should be reported, and whatever procedures are in place should be followed. The Pit owner needs to be educated at minimum. No dog should suffer because of irresponsible dog owners.

Thank you very much everyone for your replies. I feel terrible for the dog but the owner is just so irresponsible. The worst part is everyone in the park knows it!! And the owner's girlfriend knows the dog should be on leash, as when she is with them Hurley is always on leash and she tells the owner to keep it away from other dogs. I think she knows something bad is going to happen.

And to clarify we were in the park park, not the dog park.

On the nose scar. My collie had a pretty good scrape on his nose one time. I, too, worried about whether the black would come back. (Because, you know, collies are all about their looks, and particularly their noses. ) The pigment did indeed come back, but it did take awhile.

Report it. The owner is pretty cavalier about it. I would not want something to happen when it could be prevented.
