My boy Boomer is almost a year old and it seems that he just grazes at his food. I am used to my old golden Chopper. He would tell you what time it was and once I put the food down it ate until it was gone. Boomer seems to have the attention span on a gnat... if he eats a piece of food he will just as soon walk away. Some days he eats his two big bowls, other days I can have the same one out all day. I have heard of putting the food out and giving an amount of time before it is taken away until the next feeding. Would this be something that would help? Or is it better he grazes this way? Any input would be appreciated!

Boomer

I did thjat when Pixie started to leave half her food on the bowl (the vet advice me to do so). Now she always eats everything at teh right time

Wonder if this is an age thing. Coop is doing the same and he is almost 1 1/2 yrs. He eats all in his bowl in the morning (usually) but most nights will only eat a few pieces and then he is done. The portions aren't large as I feed 1 1/2 cu in AM and about a cup for night. On training days there are vegtables which he loves but doesn't get a lot of them. To me he is a bit on the thin side, but he is muscular and trim, so happy with the way he looks. He just isn't eatting like he did all the months before as he was growing.

I am wondering if it is a phase they go through as our girl did this when she was about 8 mo and cut way back on her food. She is back to eatting her portions now, so hopefully Cooper will too.??

My Maggie (RIP) was a grazer her whole life. Unless you have other pets that would get into it I don't see an issue with leaving their (dry) food down all day. JMO.

Thats what I was thinking. My old boy Chopper I think was a garbage dumpster because my parents had his mom too so he ate so his food wouldnt get eaten. I think maybe Boomer doesn't find anyone threatening to take his food.
