Hi everyone,

we have a overweight golden and need help finding the best food for her.

she is a 1.5yr American retriever ( the dark red one) she is a very petite girl . she weighs close to mid 70's range. we are currently feeding her blue buffalo wilderness ( gold package). we have noticed since we started this food she has been packing on the weight fast . it also didn't help our neighbor kept feeding her as well ( we stopped that fast)

I'm on the fence about changing brands to a lighter mix which I have in mind are blue buffalo life protection healthy weight and Purina One healthy weight.

has any one had good results with those brands?

Working with my vet we found the best diet food for my golden rescue was prescription Purina OM (overweight management) This guy needed to loose almost 60 lbs.
I wouldn't recommend this as a forever food as it's like toasted air, but you could replace 1C with the diet food. I used to mix it in a zip lock bag each morning so there was a little of each at both feedings. It really fills them up with all the fiber. Make sure she is getting plenty of exercise, walks are always a good way start.
Make sure you cut out all treats... maybe a canned green bean or raw carrot but snacks have lots of calories.

Of course you need to check with your vet before you do anything but this food has far less calories than Science Diet brand diet food but not all vets carry it. Good luck, glad you are watching her weight... very important.

When it comes to a dog's health, as a dog owner one should offer them with food that has all the supplements and nutrients that are needed for their proper growth. Some packet foods are good for dogs, but some are not. Gaining weight for a dog is not a good sign. I think for some days, you should make her eat home-made food or the best option would be to consult a dog meal supplier or you can even read blogs that have solutions related to this. You can read this article and some more similar to this to get solutions for your dog's increasing weight.
