I would also look into switching foods. Science Diet is very low quality IMO its mainly fillers. I feed Annamaet personally. Thyroid panel as well

It is wonderful that you've found a solution to your dog's weight loss problem. But you should not only think about helping Sam shed the pounds, but also helping him keep them off. What will you and your wife do when he is finally restored to a healthy weight? Perhaps you should hire a dog walker to walk him twice a day, or get a friend or neighbor to provide him with exercise twice a day. If you don't think about things like this, your efforts right now will seem to be a waste in the future.

First rule out a thyroid problem, and you should know that if a Golden is in the low end of normal they need medication. Some vets are not aware of that for the breed.

One formula you can use for weight loss is 10 calories per pound you want him to weigh, so if you want him to weigh 80 lbs, he would get 800 calories per day. If his ideal weight is 90 lbs, he would get 900 calories per day. That's for weight loss. If he seems hungry on the reduced calories you can add unsalted green beans to his meals so he feels more full. Once you get him to an ideal weight you would want to adjust his food amount to maintain it.

Yes I know thank you! We are actually enrolling him in a camp program called camp bow wow during the week hopefully he enjoys it! He actually isnt a big fan of other dogs, when I take him to the dog park the first thing he does is submit and find the closest human to hug!
