We had our first upland training day today. We got there at noon started right away did casting drills with all the dogs had a few issues with Jige to start with he was going to deep needed to keep bringing him in on the way back he did much better. Then it was time to do some hunting I did an honor with Jige right off the bat and I was standing in the wrong spot the brd almost fell at our feet but Jige held his honor I was very pleased with that. The hunt was okay I need to work on him satying steady after the bird has fell he broke on me once also on the first bird he ran straight to it instead of quartering. I got him quartering on the 2nd bird and he was steady for the shot which I was happy with. Got areas to work on but I was pleased he did better than some of the older dogs that have done it alot more than him.
My son is training his young lab too and Man I was so proud of the 2 of them. ATEM listened and quartered beautifully, he flushed the bird and was steady he didnt bring the first bird back all the way but with a little praise that he was doing good he picked up his bird and returned to a heal. They did fantastic. The one trainer ( a judge) said that ATEM would have passed if that had been a test.
