Whatever the reason, it has stopped!!

I took Brooks to the vet 2 weeks ago because he was constantly swallowing. The vet checked throat, teeth etc and couldn't come up with a reason for the swallowing but because of Brooks weight issue, also ordered thyroid test and diagnosed low thyroid. I wondered if the low thyroid could have been making him feel nauseous so he was swallowing?
A week after starting thyroxine, Brooks was still swallowing all the time. So it seemed it was caused by something else.
Two days ago, I decided to undo all the things that I had changed in his life recently (stopped his glucosamine chondroitin, put him back on his old food, and removed his tick collar). THAT VERY DAY THE CONSTANT SWALLOWING STOPPED!!!!
So, I don't know what change did it, but something made him better!!!

We have noticed he is becoming more playful already. He has never been a high energy dog but he was really sleeping a lot (depressed?) before starting his thyroid medicine.

Just a thought... any chance he may have been reacting to the tick collar??? You said you removed it among other things - I don't know what kind of repellent is used in tick collars as we don't need them here - but it could be the chemical was causing issues.

We pretty much decided the tick collar was the "most likely suspect". A year or so ago, he had a pretty significant reaction (heavy drooling and agitation) the first time the topical flea product called Tri Force was applied (this reaction stopped immediately after I washed the stuff all off).
The tick collar had a different chemical than the TriForce but the fact that he had reacted to one chemical made me wonder if he was reacting to another chemical.

The swallowing he was doing was getting scary (in my imagination he had tumors in his throat!!)

I would also lean towards the tick collar being the problem. I am glad it's stopped!

So glad he is OK. I thought it may have been some reflux from the other food. They do that (swallow reflux) .
How wonderful it disappeared!!!

We know Gunner is very allergic to something food wise but have no idea so we just pray we never have to change his food and we don't give any new treats etc.

It sounds like it was probably the tick collar that might have been the problem. But glad it has stopped.
