Emma tested positive for round worms

Our 10 wk old Emma tested pos for round worms. The vet said to be sure and wash our hands as it is contagious to humans!! Yikes. Will I know if I have it? She started her on heart worm meds so I am assuming this takes care of the round worms? Any advice will help.

I am going to move your thread to the health section so it might get more responses.

Did your vet give her worming medication? Heartworm prevention does not treat for round worms if they already have them, the Heartgard brand does prevent them from getting them.

I don't think Heartguard alone really takes care of roundworms. Is the dog on Interceptor?

I'd wash my hands carefully and then not worry about it. In a few weeks, if you get the same symptoms as your dog, then you know what to tell your doctor.

Roundworms are common in pups. I would give the three dose Panacur if it were me, and then use the Heartguard that is NOT Heartguard Plus for this month.

Thanks for moving my thread, still new to this. They gave her interceptor. No other kind of med for roundworms. She didn't have any symptoms. We mentioned we were having a hard time with potty training (still) and she said let's test for a UTI (yes, she had that) and then while we are at it, a stool sample. That's when the RW's came about. So no runny Poo, etc.

Wow, poor little Emma is having her fair share, isn't she?? Well, I guess it's good news on the UTI because it explains the difficulty in getting her house broken. Hopefully with clearing up the UTI and the worms she'll be well on her way to good health!!

Hang in there!

Test again for the worms, and if they persist, really stress Panacur. I think it does the best job.
