I hope this is the right subforum to post this. I have not posted here in quite some time. My 5 year old golden Alexandria has developed an interesting issue that my vet cannot figure out and the issue has seemed to have happened overnight. I typically take my pup for about a 1/2 mile walk before work in the morning and we usually take right around a mile long walk in the evening. About 6 weeks ago during our evening walk, she stumbled. i though she just tripped over something, but she did it again and was dragging her back right leg. so i took a look at her paw the best i could, didnt see anything, and we continued the last stretch of our walk to the house. the next morning, she was limping, really stretching her leg out as she walked, and you could tell she was really favoring that leg. So i made a vet appt and got her checked out a few days later. the vet said he cant see anything wrong with her bone stucture etc.. he said it was probably just a soft tissue injury and prescribed her some rimadyll (sp.?). he said after that prescription runs out, if she is still having issues, come back in for xrays. so the rimadyll definitely improved her status, but she was still having issues. so next up was the xrays.
a couple weeks later i dropped her off for xrays and also a lyme disease test just in case. The test came back clear, and after 4 xrays the vet says he sees nothing that would be causing her to favor that leg. he said he sees the start of a very minor arthritic condition in her rear legs, but nothing to the degree that it should affect her movement. so he prescribed rimadyll again and just said to keep following the instructions on the bottle.
i have a hard time accepting this, if you cant find anything wrong, why would you just prescribe some pills? She is definitely better than she was, but i've had to cut her walks in half just because of how stiff legged she is now.
If this is a muscle injury, how does one treat it so she becomes well again? I miss our walks. I'm concerned about her not getting better, and my wife is probably more concerned than i am, especially because it just popped up out of nowhere (which is why i think it is probably a muscle injury).
some additional background information and the sad pup picture. Since she was 3, i've been giving her glucosamine with MSN and Chondroiton with her food in the morning along with some coconut oil, and she gets fish oil with her food in the evening.
In the back of my truck on the way to the vet for xrays
Thanks in advance for any help! i typed this pretty quickly at the office and i have not had my coffee yet, so if something sounds off or i left out some important information please let me know lol
