The pup had a vet appointment on Saturday, and they found out that she had a heart murmur. The vet said her heart sounded like a 15 year old dogs heart. it was a strong three and a scale of one to six. She has to go have an ultrasound to see if she needs surgury. I just wanted to know if anyone else has had a golden with a murmur, and what they ended up doing.

I hope the same can be said for my pup. But when you lay with your head on her chest you can hear the murmur and the blood flowing back into the wrong chamber. I just never listen to heart befor this and now that he has told me I listen all the time and watch her like a hawk to make sure she is not doing to much.
I am just going to make sure she get to have the most fun any dog can. and I am going to take her places that they other dont get to go to. I am going to let her no she is special, and just make her life great for the short time she will be here.
She really is a sweetheart. and just a great fun love baby.

My suggestion would be to get a second opinion. My Dal was diagnosed with a heart murmur (2/6) and it was considered to be exercise induced (she used to run with me). She lived to be 12. Something else got her.

Coffee has been said by one vet to have a murmur, and so has Brandy, and yet, in the same clinic, another vet has said that neither one has a murmur.

My vet suggested I have something in Coffee's mouth biopsied along with doing dental work to the tune of over $400 which I could ill afford at that time. I took him to another vet for a second opinion about the biopsy, and he said to just watch it carefully. That vet also agreed that the alternative dental program I was considering would be fine.

The ultrasound and any subsequent surgery will be costly, never mind what it can do to your dog. Besides, dogs really shouldn't be put under anesthesia unless it's really necessary.

Give it more thought, and please consider a second opinion. It's your money and your dog, and your dog's health. It is worth it to look at every angle.

I have a stephescope (sp) and have listen to her heart vs the hearts of my other dogs, and you can hear the differace big time. I have also notice that she only plays for short periods of time before she is passed out asleep, and if you lift her lip and look at her gums, they are very light in color vs when she has been resting the are very pink then. I just never look, or thought anything of her stopping and sleeping, but know I know why. She reminds me of my grandmother when she had congistive heart fauilre.
