Food trials are the best way to go if you suspect a food allergy. It does take a lot of time and effort to make sure. And you must keep track each time you add a food or take one away. And to see the real result you need to wait several months to see. It took us a year to figure out Sparkles was allergic to Chicken and Turkey. She is now on a Duck and sweet potatoe formula and doing really well. My vet told me that she is seeing more and more dogs that are allergic to Chicken.

Sparkles now at the bridge, Boots at the bridge and Tink my very special heart dog.
Bridge dogs, Tuffy, Blueboy, Pudge, Shasta, Maddie, Broker, Jet, Baily, Reva, Sparkle and Boots sweet boy we are missing you so.

Temaril P is Temaril P no mg amounts, cannot remember what the antihistamine amt is but, I think the steroid amt is 2 mg per pill...

Vanectyl P is the Canadian Temeril P. Trimeprazine is 5mg and Predisolone is 2mg per pill. I would assume Temeril P is the same

I noticed with mine when he was on it, he needed at least 2 a day. If I tapered off the Vanectyl P and went down to 1 every other day like my vet suggested it worked for the first couple days, then I noticed it would start to wear off almost. So I would bump him up to 1 a day then 2 a day. My old vet was very adamant about telling me numerous times to only use 1 every other day and it was more then enough for him. No, it wasnt because it did not work.

So I just took him off it because on top of that he started to vomit blood numerous times a day. Stopped once I took him off.

This was my experience anyway

Mt dog has very bag food allergies. We aren't even sure what exactly she's allergic too but we tried (with the help of a dermatogolist and a vet) every "good" food and nothing helped. I was literally cooking for her at one point (with two small kids at home) and she was on steroids for a year straight. After switching her to bravo raw diet she cleared up. No more ear infections, bloody paws, sore on her skin, ripping her hair out, alllllllll better! I know every dog is different but this helped her. If I switch the protien she will get ear infections so we stick w turkey. If I give her dry regular food it comes back. One vet said she's one of the worst he's seen lol! Lucky me. Hope you find the right diet. I'd avoid chicken, beef, corn first read all labels because sometimes it says turkey but has chicken parts or something weird, a single source protein and no corn would be where I woukd start. Good luck it's hard!

But with the right diet you can get your pup off meds. Mine hasn't taken steroids in a long time. (on them now for something else.) oh and one thing I've found is a lot of vets really aren't knowledgable on food allergies. It sucks but is true.
