Another update: the doctor called and said that he thinks the prednisone might be the problem. He said he found reference in Tucker's medical record about a similar occurrence (steroid prescribed, great thirst and urination following) about a year ago. I feel terrible--I have no memory of that! He thinks Tucker may have a sensitivity to the steroid. So we'll continue as planned, take him off it, then observe him for a few days. He said he had slightly elevated white blood cells, and slightly low thyroid. The former could be a result of steroid, and he's not willing to prescribe any thyroid meds until he's done a more thorough blood test in a couple weeks. He thinks the thyroid is unlikely because Tucker has no big symptoms for it.
Just got home from gift shopping. We left Tucker in the crate. He wasn't happy about it but it kept him apart from the other dogs, as doctor requested. When he got out, he made a dash for the water bowl and then the back door. Tess did the same thing! I have two hyper thirsty dog's who pee a lot! LOL
