| Vet visit for Riley - thoughts? Hey guys, I've been a bit concerned about Ry for the last week or so. I have a vet visit tomorrow morning at 9:20 scheduled. Let me give you the facts: -Riley has very recently (the last two weeks) started eating poop. He has never done this before in his life (since I've had him), he has never shown the slightest bit of interest. But now it is like he is on a search mission. -His poop has been a little bit green. Still fully formed at not at all mucous-y, but still it has a green tinge. I don't know if this is due to eating poop itself or they are both symptoms of something else. -He has also been whining a lot lately for no reason that I can tell. He usually whines to go out when he has to "go" but lately he has been whining all the time. -To be fair, he has been going through quite a transition, going from being the spoiled only dog to having a rambunctious little brother. Perhaps these behaviors are stress induced or he is "acting out"? -He has also been on a different flavor of food for the past three weeks or so. It is still the same type of food (Fromm) but this time he is eating the Pork and Applesauce, which he has never had before. He is eating and drinking normally and gobbles it down no problem. Thoughts?

| Hm, good you made a vet appointment. That is always the best place to start. I think you are on the right track with your ideas, it could be stress because of the pup that he eats poop. Maybe he is trying to get extra attention. I doubt that poop eating has much to do with his food, because I have a poop eating dachshund at home and he will eat poop no matter what I feed him. And...... he won't quit. .... arghhhhhhh... Good luck with Riley, let us know what the vet says.

| Val VAL Let us know what the vet says-I love Riley. I bet Riley's condition has more to do with having another sibling now and the change in FOOD. My dogs will eat the poop, too, so I have to pick up after them immediately.

| When we added dog number 2, Mosby definitely upped his whining. It's gotten a little better (3.5 months later) but not completely gone. I'm sure it's just for attention, but it worries me enough that when he goes in at the end of December for his rabies shot I'm having them do bloodwork and run a thyroid panel. Hopefully it's just for attention with Riley, too |

| Glad you're taking Riley to the Vet. It may very well be the little nuthouse running around him and the food change. Every now and then Mick did that and I would put a chunk of canned pineapple in his food and it stopped. But my gut says Riley's upset about how bad the Steelers are playing and no Hockey.

| I am not so much worried about the poop eating itself but about the fact that it is all of a sudden and new. If he had always done it I would just chalk it up to it being gross and him being gross and try to prevent it as much as possible. But since it is such an abrupt and sudden change, that is what got me noticing it and worried. Better safe than sorry I guess! I just hate hearing him whining. I know that getting Winston has taken some of the time and attention away from him and disrupted is routine, but he really likes to play with the little guy and I think, especially when Winston is older and doesn't require so much special treatment, Riley is going to love having him.

Val - I agree with everyone. Really glad you made the appointment, but seems like it could be from stress/changes.
