Just got a thermal dog thermometer. You point it in the ear, upper gum, or belly area to measure. Seems to work since the left ear (with a bit of yeast infection) runs hotter (102.5) than the right (101.5). Belly was about 101.

Do goldens run hot in general? I can imagine my pup's temperature if she exercises would probably be alarmingly hot....

101 to 102.5 is normal in dogs. Max was in for a check-up a couple of weeks ago and his temp was 101.5.

Another random question,...What are dog's temperatures after exercising? Since they get hot, and they're not supposed to stay over 103 degrees - isn't that bad? I guess I never thought about that for humans too!

I read that in a hard working dog the temp can really skyrocket, 106 maybe? But they quickly recover.

Sonny, the black lab, ran ahead to make sure there were no gophers or jackrabbits in the way. If you don't give a dog a specific job, he'll improvise one for himself and it will invariably be fun. There's a lesson there.
