Tess has a horrible coat at the moment, it is very thin and she sheds like crazy. When Liza plays with her, I have to remove bunches of fur from her mouth. She is on a good food and gets salmon oil. Could it be related to the prednisone she had to take (but we stopped about two months ago, can it still have an impact?), she is still taking Azathioprine, can it be related to that? I did ask the vet to do a full thyroid panel, we have to wait for the results.

My first thought was fish oil and thyroid. I'm not sure about the other things maybe contributing to hair loss. I give my dog this fish oil (SALE - Nordic Naturals Omega-3 Pet 16 oz. - $39.95 - LuckyDogVitamin.com) in case it helps. Keep us posted. I'd be curious to know the results of they thyroid panel.
