Has anyone used Revolution or Frontline to treat sarcoptic mange? Our three Goldens have contracted it.
They are all on healthy diets and nutritional supplements and are, what we thought to be, very healthy dogs with strong immune systems.
Our family leans towards doing things the natural way and we don't like to resort to using drugs or chemicals on ourselves or our dogs, but realize that sometimes you have to.
We have tried many natural remedies, from shampoos to nutritional supplements and none seem to be helping -- in fact, they seem to be getting worse. The vet did a skin scraping (which was inconclusive -- as the skin scrapings sometimes are) and gave us prednisone (on the off chance that we were dealing with a skin allergies.)
I am very aware and concerned about the side-effects of putting a topical chemical on their skin. The three Goldens in question range in ages from 5-11 1/2. However, we have a total of six dogs in the family, although only three (right now) are showing active signs of having scabies. The three who are not, are older rescue dogs who have various health problems including hypothyroidism.
All of the dogs in our family are rescues and have been victims of poor nutrition and overinnoculation prior to our rescuing them. After many years of love and care, we have restored their health and, quite frankly, the thought of dousing them with chemicals scares me, but not sure if I have any other option at this point.
Just wanted to see if anyone has any experience dealing with this.
