skijor training

I'm in the process of trying to teach my Golden Abby to skijor. She's fine around the skis, and will walk just fast enough in front of me to keep the line taught, but she won't run and pull hard. I think I've done too much obedience work with her (aka DON'T PULL) that it's going to be hard to re-wire her brain for this. Any tips on skijoring with a house dog?

I don't like the cold so I don't snow ski but a buddy of mine does this sport with his dog. He's very picky about harnesses. When he's walking his dog, he uses a harness that clips to the leash at the front of the dog in the chest area. When he's skijoring he uses the standard skijor harness which has the connection point on top of the dog (on their back). He says this helps him train the dog to know we're walking - no pulling versus we're skijoring - now you have to pull me.

Basically, his dog learns when pulling is acceptable and not acceptable based on the location of the attachment point of the harness.

I was thinking of something similar...I tend to walk her with a harness as well, but starting in the spring I'm only going to walk her with a collar- the harness gets reserved for when I want her to pull!
