Gipper chews on his leash anytime we go anywhere. As soon as I put it on him and we walk out the door, the leash is in his mouth. Today he pulled it away from me and ran away with it in his mouth. This week at training class he was doing well until about the last 15 min when he turned into devil dog just focused on attacking and chewing the leash (to the point that he was jumping at me to get it). Any advice on how to fix this behavior??
Victoria Stilwell says to use an inexpensive, old fashion chain leash with a leather handle. I got one from Dollar General and only used it a couple of times. Hope this helps.
Sounds like a good way to learn "drop it." Some dogs really like to attack the leash, or carry it in their mouths. If its happening when you are on a walk, you can also bring a toy with you on your walks, for him to carry instead.
