Puppy scared to go on walks/outside? My new puppy, 9 weeks old, is scared to go on walks. He makes it 15 ft out the door to pee/poo, but whenever I try to get him to go beyond that he whines, pulls on the leash in a frantic attempt to go back home.
This poses a huge problem because indoors he gets soooo much pent up energy that he does whatever he can to get our attention to play. This often results in barking, BITING, and being in the play bow.
I want to play with him. I want him to expend energy and be tired mentally and physically. But I refuse to play with a puppy who bites. It's a vicious circle. Play indoors and expend energy with the risk of teaching him its OK to bite during play. Or not play indoors, still get bitten (as yelping high pitched doesn't always work anymore), and have a hyper and potentially destructive puppy.
He doesn't have all his vaccines yet so socializing with other dogs at dog day care, going to the park, and going to puppy classes is out of the question.
How to I fix this fear of the "outdoors"? |
