My family is looking into getting another golden. I have done some research and came across Darrowby Goldens in Middleburgh, NY. Can anyone tell me if they have ever dealt with this breeder before or what have you heard. I really like the look of the goldens and I have been able to view their clearances. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Hope everyone and their furry friends had a wonderful holiday
Cuddy (Darrowby's Cuddy of Melba) will be providing us with a late winter/early spring litter of beautiful English type Goldens sired by our Nelson.
The only thing I would suggest discussing with the breeder are the clearances on the dogs. A few seem to be missing on OFA's database. That doesn't mean that they don't exist. You just need to see a hard copy. Since you seem to have already seen them, just verify that each dog and it's ancestors have hips, elbows, hearts, and eyes. Eyes are done yearly through CERF. Cuddy
(Darrowby's Cuddy of Melba) has OFA clearances as does Nelson
. Since Nelson is an import, I'd want to know about and see the clearance history in previous generations.
The other litter, dam is Lieu
x Nelson. Lieu has all clearances, but her dam isn't listed in the database. I'd want to know about clearances there as well.
The Darrowby website is kind of disjointed. A lot of non-existent hyperlinks and you really have to search for the information. It is hard to tell if they actually compete with their dogs in any venue. If I were shopping for a puppy, I'd want to see the CCA or an AKC/CKC conformation title or points to know that their structure is correct.
I'd also recommend taking a look at Benchmark Goldens in NY
. I looked at them and considered a puppy from them but the timing wasn't right and the litter didn't take. Their current litter looks really, really awesome.
