| Am I on the right track? As some of you already know, I won't be getting my Golden puppy til in about a year or so. I talked to one of the breeders I was supplied and she made me start double guessing myself. She made it sound like I'm doing research and stuff too early, that I should be doing this stuff once I get moved and situated. Now I'm unsure. I've heard of people finding a breeder and having to wait a long, long time for their pup. I just wanted to pick my breeder and have my pup already reserved, know as much as I can about Goldens, and etc. Does that make sense? Or it doesn't and that I'm too anxious or excited? I was thinking of choosing more than one breeder, so if the first breeder's timeline doesn't fit my time line, then there's a chance another breeder's would. I don't what to do and I feel like I don't know what I'm doing. I really liked how I did with my last dog, I bought some of the doggie stuff before getting the dog, picked out a vet, and everything which is why I'm trying to do my first golden like that. I want to stay ahead. Can anyone feel where I'm coming from?

| Sounds like you are smart to me. If you find a breeder you like, in an area near you, it may be many months until they have a breeding. |

| When you find a breeder you might like, ask on the forum, there will likely be several responses. Or say where you are looking and ask for good breeders in that area. |

| I think you sound incredibly mature and responsible! And preparing way in advance is a good thing. If a breeder doesn't like how you are doing things then maybe that's not the breeder for you. It is always best to have as much info as possible. I think a breeder would be thrilled to have you interested in one of their dogs! |

www.tennesseegoldens.com www.starfiregoldens.com www.cobblestonegoldens.com www.runnymedekennels.com I like what I see out of all those breeders. (I love that song that plays on star fire goldens site) The breeder that I've been talking to on the phone, she told me to call her once I am moved and settled and that there was nothing I could do to prepare in advance and stuff. It made me question myself. Also, the guy on the GRCA website, the referral, he never called back. I called him a second time and he still didn't email me back. So okay, I am looking for breeders in the Southeast. Perferly, states: Florida, Arkansas, Lousiana, Tenneesse, Alabama, and of course Mississippi.

| Well, since I'm doing the same thing you are, and have been doing it for months, I obviously think you're doing the right thing! A good breeder, it seems, would be happy that so much forethought is going into the decision to possibly buy one of her puppies. |

| Perhaps the breeder you talked to has a litter planned and is looking for homes for that litter right now? That's always a possibility. Some people aren't planners so they don't understand people who are. I wouldn't take it too personally. We talked to Jack's breeder right after his dam was bred....she didn't even know if the breeding took so hadn't accepted any deposits. Worked out GREAT for us since I just checked in with her weekly to find out the status and once it was confirmed, we were first on the list! I've found that breeders who are active in showing or otherwise competing with their dogs are just sometimes hard to get ahold of. There are a lot of shows during the summer months, and it could be that people are just out of town and not able to catch up on emails/calls. But do I think you should get some response back at some point! I would probably send two emails or make two calls before crossing a breeder off my list.
