You're doing great!

I spoke to one breeder who told me herself not to go with any breeders that don't answer every single question you might have. They should NEVER make you feel as though you're asking too many questions and should have just as many for you.

Well after searching and searching I finally found a breeder who is nice and said to keep in touch. She's going to have a litter next year, but just maybe, maybe she'll have another litter in the fall or the near the fall of 2011.

Still the road keeps on telling me to go on.

Cobble Stone Goldens:

She seems really nice and has all the requirements of an ethical breeder according to GRCA.

Hopefully, that's who I'll get Jenna from or she's refer me to a breeder when the time comes.

Ohh, I just can't wait!!! I can imagine myself holding a fat puppy in my arms!

I hate to double post, but I have another question.

Would it hurt to start getting stuff this early or is that way waayy too early? What size carrier crate would I need for a golden retriever? I want one that will not only be big enough for puppyhood, but adulthood as well.

If you want to start early I find it super! It shows how committed you are, how responsible and doing the right research takes time.

Getting to know and trust the breeder is important IMO. (S)he will be there for you for a long time and how can you make sure you will receive the support you will need if someone tells you that you started too early? Maybe they don't have anything planned so further ahead, but still...

Besides health which is paramount, please keep in mind that temperament and conformation are also important. Try to find someone who is showing the dogs. Even if you get a pet and have absolutely no intention of showing, that breeder shows true commitment to the breed.

And also, I don't think it's too early to start buying things for the pup. Make a list with things you need for the puppy

Good luck in your search and I hope you find the right breeder

It is very refreshing to have a potential client contact in advance of when they want a puppy. This gives both breeder and purchaser time to establish a relationship prior to the litter birth and going home day! I have met some of my dearest friends this way! one couple in particular contacted me a year in advance of when they were looking to take a puppy home, I had a litter on the ground and invited them to come meet & play we now have a tradition, I call them up and they come for coffee, and snuggle all my litters! They now have 2 of my dogs!!!!!
