Starting the search in Southern California

Hello everyone, I've been reading the forum for a while and finally decided to make my first post.

I've been doing a lot of reading, mostly previous Southern California threads. Dana's SoCal list (Southern California Breeders List) is extremely helpful and I'm using that as a starting point, although I have yet to contact any breeders directly. I have sent emails to both the GRCGLA and the GRCSDC and currently waiting for them to get back to me.

I figured I would post up here just in case the right set of eyes happens to see my post and can provide a referral.

I have one traveling commitment in early August and then no more travel planned for the foreseeable future. I've purposefully not made any further commitments in anticipation of adopting a puppy.

A little bit about myself; I'm 33 and I live in San Clemente, California. I work from home. I live in a 1300 sq/ft apartment with my girlfriend. We have no yard but we live 100 yards from the beach and the San Clemente beach trail. We are both very active (running, cycling, surfing). We have no kids.

I'm looking for a puppy with full health clearances, preferably multi-generational, and obviously pedigrees on both sire and dam sides.

Although we are very active, I'd prefer a puppy with medium to lower energy levels and a service dog temperament. I don't plan to show him or do agility, but I do plan to take him almost every where with me. So a temperament that does very well in public is highly desirable.

Last on the priority list is look and color. While the requirements above, in my mind, far outweigh looks, I thought I might as well specify my preference in case the perfect puppy is out there. I think Noah (Noah is Growing Too Fast!) from this very forum is extremely handsome and his look would be my preference.

Although I'm only looking to adopt after the middle of August, I'd love to start the process now. It would be great to meet potential breeders.

I'm not the right set of eyes for you, but did want to say that if you hope to bring home a puppy in August you might be a little late to the game!
Going home mid- August is on the ground already, and most good breeders have a rather long wait list. But I will cross my fingers that you get a wonderful referral and find your very own 'Noah"!

Good luck with your search and welcome to the forum! You might have to broaden your search area because as Prism said, you're late to the game to bring home a pup this summer. Hopefully a responsible breeder will have a larger than expected litter and you get lucky

Thank you both for the replies. Yeah I figured I'm starting a little late but definitely happy to wait it out if need be.

Thanks Goldendude. I've heard back from both the Greater LA and San Diego clubs and neither of them know of any upcoming litters, so it looks like I'll be broadening my search. The Bay Area is definitely doable (about 7 hours drive), we actually lived there for a number of years so we have friends that we could visit if we were to travel up.

Somebody on here might be able to give you some info on those two breeders.

One of my Goldens is from SoCal. PM me and I'll send you her name. I have no idea whether she has pups but she might.
That would be helpful, thanks! I just tried to PM you but my post count is too low right now. Are you able to PM me?

If you search around a little, you'll find that I created a whole thread list of Southern California breeders, with contact info and my recommendations as to each one.
