Loveline Golden Retriever - Recent litter - help with clearances

Good morning,

I've searched a bit on this breeder and most of the posts seem to be from 2012. At the time, people were saying to be cautious (biblical verses), however I wanted to see if anyone has looked into her again.

I was looking into a puppy and the most recent litter is from Rey and Agape. I see Rey has his clearances posted (LoveLine Golden Retrievers - Douglasville, GA) but I don't know exactly what I'm looking for. I did see the DI is .65 and .62, and that .70 or above is high risk so that seems closer to the high end.

I did not find any information on Agape. I've been told she has OFA good hips, elbows, and heart.

All of her dogs have a health guarantee, if they have any genetic predispositions, she'll replace the puppy at any time with a healthy dog. And they have to be enrolled in some type of obedience class. Like I said, people were cautious but to me it seems ok, so I'm asking for some experienced help.

Basic clearances would be hip (OFA or PennHip), elbow ( only OFA does elbows in North America), eyes done annually by a veterinary ophthalmologist) and heart done by a veterinary cardiologist. Not only should both parents have these clearances but so should their ancestors for at least 3-5 generations.

OFA prelims are not clearances, and are not intended to be used to make breeding decisions.

Eyes and heart should be on OFA but are not always sent in to be registered. If they are not, ask for copies.

You can do much better than this.

And guarantees are only as good as the person giving them. Does the guarantee require the return of the puppy?

To me, a guarantee like that one is useless. You will never want to give back your puppy in exchange for another once you've had him or her for even a day. Can you imagine after 6 months? Or 2 years? That kind of guarantee is easy to say or write on a website. No one would ever want to take advantage of it.

Find a breeder who does all the core health clearances and has them easy to find on K9Data and/or OFA. Who is dedicated to bettering the breed and raising well socialized puppies. They're out there! :smile2:
