Smile Breeder referral NC + questions from a newbie!

Hello all, I have spent the past week or so scouring these forums and reading e everything I can! I want to start off with a big thank you to everyone for providing so much useful information, I have learned so much from your knowledge! Moving on, I know I am early but I am starting to research breeders in north carolina(or surrounding states) for a puppy we hope to get in spring/summer 2014. I am a single mommy to a 2year old and will graduate at that time and work from home(if everything goes to plan) so I think that will be a good time to get our first puppy! I have read all about clearances and breeders and prices and I think I've got the basics, but will continue to expand my knowledge about the breed over the next year and a half. My current request is if anyone has any referrals for a breeder, I am hoping to stay under 1500, but would go higher if I have to. The most important things for me are temperament anqd health. When the time comes, my son will be just over 3 and I know some breeders are uncomfortable with puppies and toddlers, so a breeder okay with this is a must. If there's anything else you need to know to point me in the right direction please let me know, and I look forward to becoming a part of this community hopefully! Ps sorry about typos I haven't quite gotten the hang of this iPad yet lol!

Welcome, I'm in NC too, I'm over on the Coast.

My neighbors bought a pup last year through a Breeder in SC, they were given the name of this breeder from another located in NC who did not have a current or upcoming litter.

They used the Golden Retriever Club of America's Puppy Referral-here is the link. You can search by State or Region. Golden Retriever Puppies: Golden Retriever Club of America (GRCA)

My neighbors contacted the Golden Retriever Clubs listed. If you look at the Tarheel Golden Retriever Club's info, there is a list of breeders provided. Here's the link for the list:

Tarheel Golden Retriever Club

Good luck in your search.

Thank you! I will look into both, although we aren't moving to NC (Raleigh) until this coming summer so I will wait until then. I'm also thinking of "joining" a golden club down there when we move to get some referrals and information...currently just doing preliminary research

Thanks I am looking forward to having a dog in the house again so much! I have been looking at the Tarheels breeder referral site and am kind of lost....the ones I've found are :

Golden rose kennel (goldenrosekennel.com)
I looked up some of their dogs on k9data and although it seems most of their dogs have all the clearances, most of the ancestors have incomplete clearances. Also they are fairly cheap(700-900).

Wag'n tail goldens (Wagntailgoldens.com)
Again, same thing about the ancestral clearances... Although I don't know about price couldn't find it on the site

Acadia golden retrievers (Acadiagoldenretrievers.com)
Ancestral clearances (again! Lol) and I am also not too keen on the "English look", personal preference, also seem a bit pricey at 1600-1800

I looked at a few others, including the "board favorite" tanglewood goldens, but as I've said I tend to shy away from the English golden look and also they are rather expensive for what I'm looking for. I also checked out crescent goldens, but I think they may have moved to FL?! And again, I don't know if I feel comfortable spending 1800 on a puppy that I have no plans to show or compete with :/

If anyone has any input on the above breeders, or any ideas about breeders I am missing I would reall appreciate the help! Also, is it normal for the ancestral clearances to not be listed on k9data?

Whee, sorry for the long post y'all

I have an Acadia golden. She's 3/4 English, 1/4 American. She is Everything I wanted a Golden to be, and my children are 3yo and 5yo. Sadie is the most loveable gentle soul, and has yet to meet another animal or human that she doesn't love. Working with Patti has also been an absolute pleasure, and she's aways available for any random questions that I may have. Obviously she didn't mind letting a family with young children buy the dog, but she had to meet them first and watch them interact with the dog.
I know that you don't favor the "English look", but if there are any questions that I can help you with, PM me.
I also really liked Tanglewood Goldens when I was searching, but as you said again, they are "English"

If you go to the GRAC website, you can search for breeders by State or Region. in the Puppy Refferal Section.

Contact the Golden Retriever Clubs listed in each state or area for a Breeder Referral.

If you do a search on the forum here for Breeders in North Carolina or any other state you might be interested in, a list of threads will come up discussing several breeders, some great ones and some you might want to avoid.

Best of luck.

Here are some possibilities you might want to investigate:

Jazzin Golden Retrievers - Personal Info

Golden Retriever Puppies GA

Wagntail Goldens appears to do most things right, however the most recent litter she bred the sire was her dog who was only a year old and appears to have been bred on preliminary hip/elbow clearances (The GRCA wants them to be final at age 2 before breeding).

Goldenrose may sell cheaper puppies but, you are correct, there appear to be missing spots in proper clearances just one generation back. It is common for previous generations to be missing clearances on k9data, but most should be found on OFA's website. You can always ask the breeder why they are missing. A cheaper puppy is not always cheaper in the long run. There are plenty of threads on this forum regarding the cost of a puppy, you might look through some of them for more information.
