We are in the process of looking for another Golden and found Thistle Rock in MN. Anyone heard of them? Good .. not good?

I have never heard of them and field is not my area of knowledge. Hopefully someone from a field background can weigh in on pedigrees and such. They look very active with their dogs which is a good thing.

Of the two litters listed, if that is what you are looking at, I like the Ike x Maurene litter from a clearence stand point. Both parents have CHIC certificates, which earns a big thumbs up from me.
The other litter is not as strong on clearances. You would need to ask to see Zoey's eye clearance and Pistol only has a practitioner heart. For my comfort, it would need to be a heart by Cardiologist. We have Sub-Aortic Stenosis in the breed, so I like to see Cardiologist.

Overall, by just a short peek it looks very promising.

If you are looking for help, it would be a good idea to tell the forum what you are looking for. As an example, if you are looking for a hunting companion who can go all day, a dog with a lot of drive, or perhaps an agility prospect. The forum will guide you to breeders with dogs like that. If you want a family companion who will be content to go for walks around the neighborhood and then veg on the couch with you, the forum will guide you to a breeder with dogs like that. Let us know if you want a top show dog, acompetitive obedience prospect and so on. There are a lot of helpful folks on here.

The Ike litter is sold out and the other I think may of some puppies. This is probably more then what were looking for. We're looking for a family dog. Tweenie as some say Energy that is balanced. Not hyper nor a couch potato. This would not be our first Golden, but we are having a hard time finding a breeder close to where we live.

I have seen the notation CHIC beside dog's names when looking up clearances on OFA. Do you know if CKC registered dogs are eligible for a CHIC cerficate? Are these numbers only available for breeding dogs?

If that litter is already spoken for. You could try Jane Docter of DocMar Goldens or Judy Super of Westmarch Goldens. If they don't have anyone in mind, they may guide you into the right direction of someone who might. Judy doesn't have a website, but Jane does. Good luck!!

Yes, Canadian dogs can qualify for CHIC. It also is not specific to breeding dogs, although most folks who care about clearances will be thinking in that direction. CHIC it's self does not mean passing clearances. It means at the time the CHIC number is issued the dog has been tested for and results made public for all the testing required by CHIC for that breed. A dog can have say Hip Dysplasia and still have a CHIC number as long as the result is public. So, even with CHIC numbers you should still review the individual results on Orthopedic Foundation for Animals.

Currently it takes:
Hips -OFA, OVC, or PennHip
Elbows - OFA or OVC
Heart - OFA by cardiologist
Eyes - CERF or OFA annually
The dog must also have a verifiable permanent identification such as a microchip or tattoo.

Tom and Lynn have been producing field bred goldens for almost 40 years.

The cardiologist requirement is relatively new, and dogs cleared prior to the change are not required to re-certify. You're going to see Practitioner clearances for at least another ten years, more if frozen semen breedings are being done.

Thanks, I was asking, because one of my girls is a retired breeding bitch. She has all her clearances, and I have been doing her CERF exams every other year since we got her. I know her original breeder did not put her clearances on OFA, her hips/elbows are OVC, nor on K9 data. I just wondered if it would be beneficial to people who may have purchased her puppies/grandpuppies as at least 2 of her puppies are breeding dogs.

You could also check out Acorn goldens, they are up by Fargo, or you could check out Dal-Rhe, who are also in Northern MN.
