Hi everyone,

I am new around here and just beginning my search for our next golden family member, either a female puppy or perhaps even a young female "adult" (up to about a year) that a reputable breeder may be looking to rehome for some reason. We lost our golden boy about 4 years ago, and recently just lost our beloved mastiff as well, both to cancer. So, while we have considered going through a rescue organization (and have done so in the past) this time we would just feel better knowing the health background and lineage of our next dog, particularly after watching our golden's painful struggle with dysplasia and because we also have a young son so temperament is of paramount importance.

We currently live in Iowa, and also make fairly regular trips to Oklahoma to see family as well, so anywhere in the central US would be ideal. However, although we would love to find our new companion close by I am definitely willing to travel where ever I need to for the right fit and the right breeder. We are also not in any particular hurry either, and would be more than willing to wait as long as we need to to find the right match for our family as that is way more important to us than instant gratification. So, any recommendations at all would be greatly appreciated - no matter the location or timeframe, as health and temperament are our primary concerns. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum & good luck in your hunt for a golden pup. I've done quite a bit of rescue work in Oklahoma--definitely go through the Central Oklahoma Golden Retriever Club (cogrc.org) for a breeder referral as 99.9% of the reputable breeders don't have a website. There are a high number of BYBs and HVBs that don't do clearances (hips, elbows, heart, eyes) but are pretty good at "selling their product" so be forewarned. Missouri happens to have a good number of reputable breeders so you may want to touch base through a breeder referral there as well (grcgsl.org)

Iowa has a great golden club, too (dmgrc.org). Lots of great goldens in the central Iowa area, so I'm sure breeder referral would be great help.

If I were breeder shopping, I would look into Heritage Goldens in the Kansas City area.

I met Christina Yohe, her dog Skye and a puppy of Skye's. She was wonderful to talk with, and her dogs were beautiful.

About Us

There is also a Golden Retriever Club of Kansas City that has a small list of breeders.

Beware because there may be another breeder that uses the same kennel name, so make sure it is Christina.

I got my Gracie from a breeder in western Iowa. PrarieWyn is their name. They complete all 4 clearances and compete with their Goldens. They even have an obedience school.

Can't say enough good things about them. They have been a great resource for me and are very interested on the long-term welfare of their puppies.

They have 2 litters on the ground, and I believe that all of the puppies are spoken for.
