| Looking for a Hunting dog not a "Show" dog in Raleigh I am finally looking into getting another golden. Sandy left us several years back due to cancer, but that is the best dog I have ever known. I didn't do my research when I got her, that at this time I dont regret, she gave me 12 wonderful years. After I got her trained, she went every where I did. She was pure water dog. We would be at the lake and she would just decide to go swimming. Anyway, to get back on point, I am looking for another Golden and I am doing my research this time. All the breeders I see around seem to have "Show" dogs. I want a working, bird hunting, fetching Golden not "show" one. Are there any breaders in the North Carolina area? Thanks for the help, Matt |

| Hi Matt and wlecome to the GRF! ![]() Just wanted to let you know that ALL Goldens should and most are trainable for hunting/field work. Do not count those breeders of what you refer to as "show" Goldens. Good luck in you search. Your local GRC would be a good place to start Tarheel Golden Retriever Club.

| You CAN have a show dog that also hunts... I know of several of us who show our dogs AND hunt our dogs... these things are not mutually exclusive...

| Hi! I would check out the golden listings on RTF : Classifieds - Golden Puppies Also Google Topbrass Goldens, they are in the SE and have top notch hunting goldens. Be sure any litter you look at has health clearances for both parents, they must have the Big Four : OFA hips, OFA elbows, OFA hearts, OFA/CERF eyes yearly. Best of luck!

| Jim and Lisa Cohen of Briarwood are in that neck of the woods. Some of their dogs are of more English show breeding, but they also have some from working pedigrees that are trained and out competing. I think their boy MacTavish got a Qual 2nd this year.
