Hi everybody, I am new to this forum and new in getting a golden retriever. I have decided to get a golden because it seems it would be a great addition to our family and it would definitely bring us closer. I have done lots of research on the golden and what is needed to take care of one. I have searched the forum for recommendations around Houston, Texas and I have looked through the GHGRC breeder's list and I believed I narrowed it down to Xcelerate and Mercedes Hitchcock in Sugarland.
I was wondering if anybody could tell me if these are good breeders and if there is anybody else I should look at, I am also willing to look outside of Houston. Thank you very much for your time and assistance  =)
Yes I have been in contact with them and they have been telling me about the breeders and what I should be aware of from them. Also they have been giving great and helpful information about raising a golden. I was just wondering if anybody else had attained a golden from any of these breeders and if they could tell me their feedback.
My boy is an Xcelerate puppy. He's a great dog and has such a loving personality. If you go with Xcelerate you can't go wrong. Ace is from the Blue x Brinkley litter Oct 2010. Good luck with your puppy search!
Litters can happen at anytime during the year. Some during the winter, but that can be rare (esp. in colder climates). But, you need to make sure the breeder has done ALL clearances, the parents have clearances back in their line up to the minimum of 5 generations, AND you are ready to have a puppy. Not saying you aren't, but it's something to keep in mind, they are like children and are A LOT of work!
My girl is from Scion. At twenty months she is a Pet Partner (formly Delta Society) therapy dog, has her CGC, and two legs toward her RA. She's a great dog. Look at the Dallas,Houston,Austin club referal sites. You're lucky there are great breeders here in Texas:wave:
Mercedes is terrific, and has awesome working dogs--but they are that--working dogs. I bred to her boy Trey two years ago and got fabulous pups, one of whom was a SH at 23 months old, trained by my friend who owns him with me. Both he and the girl that I kept are quite driven--neither would be happy just hanging around. I have been sick the last couple of weeks, so my girl has not been out hunting or training and she has just been pestering me to get out and do something!!
