High Times - Miners Kennels has two litter listings.

Miners Kennel Retriever - Puppies

These are pure field lines. There is one due to be born on February 7th and I know the dam and owner. She's a great dog. The breeding is: High Times Big Dog Daddy**CDX MH X Shorewoods Renegade Ellie MH.

The other breeding is taking place in California.

If you are in the midwest area. I would suggest looking at Topbrass, Gaylans (NY) and Topmast (MI).
Topmast is a Gaylan's cobreeder and Pat Swallows is great to work with. Their breedings tend to be multipurpose litters. I would suggest going to their websites and check out their upcoming breedings so you can review pedigrees etc on K9 Data, OFFA. I have a 6 month old Topmast puppy and I can say she has a great on/off switch. She loves to work and is super smart ( has impressed our Obedience and Agility trainers who are both AKC judges). We introduced Open & Utility exercises by 4.5 months old. We are starting field training shortly. In the house and otherwise she goes with the flow. Our trainers think that she must need a job in the house and don't believe me when I say she is a couch potato at home. I can take her anyplace and she has perfect manners.

it looks like they want money upfront before you know if there is a puppy for you/me.

No you don't read it wrong, I have a Top Brass bitch that Is 3 years old . You might want to look at Four Seasons Goldens in Indiana , they just had a litter three days ago 2 females 1 male and they have a male born in october for sale also. I have a 10 month old from her and am very pleased with him. All clearences are done on parents OFA EYE CERTS HEART

It's not uncommon for a breeder to ask for a deposit when you get put on a list for a litter. Some breeders don't but it's not necessarily a red flag if they do.
