Can you recommend a breeder in OKC area?

I'm in OKC, OK. In the very early stages of entertaining bringing another pup into the home. Not concerned about a few hundred miles for the sake of a worthy breeder, I would prefer a breeder within a few hundred miles of home.

Oklahoma, North TX, Western AR, South Kansas area...

Thanks for taking the time ;)

Start with Sharon Bolton at goldensofbenden.com and/or go through the central ok gr club puppy referral
Stay away from goldens with Bedell lines, the kids are taking on the family business of cranking out poorly bred pups. There are a large number of terrible breeders in the area, so please please verify generations of clearances, some of the bad ones are trying to talk the talk but clearly fail to walk the walk. I still volunteer with SGRR if you decide to go the rescue route again--sorry to hear about your boy.

Thanks! I'm not against rescuing another dog, and SGRR would clearly be my direction, but since the shift over to Tulsa we haven't been involved. I just got my card in the mail this past weekend.

I sent a general touch base email to the Central Oklahoma Golden Retriever Club, although the site seems to be in need of an update regarding upcoming events. I'd would like to face to face with some of the local owner and breeders.

Benden is local, and would be my first choice with what I've read so far.

Finn (and me for that matter) had a great weekend compared to last Wed/Thurs. He is tail wagging, eating, and getting himself around. I'm so glad we decided to give him the weekend to improve.

I bet any of these clubs could give you suggestions on who they think does a really good job in your region, does all the health clearances and also competes in some venue with their dog and will have a litter planned for later this year. Best of luck with your search.... I think it's good to have a project like this to focus on to help occupy yourself.

I am sure you already purchased a puppy, but just a FYI I was googling the Bedell's to try and find their website. My family has several dogs that we purchased from them and have never had any issues. They have been raising them for years and have pedigrees for all of their dogs, sometimes going back several generations, and have had all of their males hip certified with the paperwork to back it up. They also seem to be wonderful people, who love all kinds of animals. In conclusion, if anyone has their contact info let me know!

They've advertised through the classified ads in the Oklahoman--you can verify it's them by a reverse number lookup. As for clearances, if you go on offa.org and type in Bedell, there is I think 4 dogs listed out of the hundreds that have been produced. Moreover, the bare MINIMUM clearances recommended by the GRCA is for hips, elbows, annual eyes and cardiologist cleared heart--these are not being accomplished especially when dogs are being bred under 2 yrs of age. In addition, not sure why a handful of males had hips accomplished, but mom's clearances are just as important.

To do anything less than the minimum is just a shame and a disservice to the breed.
