My 'new' but mostly improved kitchen!!

This weekend for my birthday since I begged pleaded and promised I would actually work and not only supervise...BF finally consented to redoing our kitchen. My plan was to get a shelf of some sort up to use as extra counter space and get rid of the extra kitchen table we had so it would open up the space since my kitchen as a whole is not very large and gets considerably smaller with 2 dogs following me around and snoozing on the floor. I also got really frustrated because whoever laid the flooring never put floor molding down so you could see the staples and gross edges and that just drove me bonkers. We kind of have this whole country rustic deal going on in the living room, kitchen and front room which looks neat cuz we have a wood stove as our main source of heat.

Now what started this was the fact that the bay window that was part of the original 70s trailer we live in let out SOOOO much heat and the few times we used the oil furnace it didnt help matters at all. Last summer we got 7 brand new windows at a yard sale for 75 bucks after selling 4 to bfs brother for his garage we had 3 left. One is in the living room and the next went in the kitchen and we are still debating where to put the last one. Anyways heres some pictures of my fun weekend and birthday present..

Heres the start of demo....Im bummed cuz I forgot to take a pic of the window before we took it apart but you get the jist of how BIG the bay window was.

(Bertha my car is posing in her spot LOL)

Im leaning out the hole of the window. Thats the bay window frame. We took all the individial pieces of glass out before I got to kicked the frame out of the hole. For how big that thing was it was only held in place with 6 screws and the bottom left corner was starting to rot out.

Our framing for the new window.

My new window!! Woohoo. I know its in sideways but we like them wider rather than taller so we did all the windows sideways.

The outside of the trailer. This is Sundays pictures cuz it was too dark to finish it Saturday after we got the window in. Now ladies calm down now I know that tooshie is yummy to look at..LOL just kidding...BF is smoothing all the caulking into the joints before we got ready to paint.

My bucket full of wood and stuff from ripping the window out. I got to use a mallet and bash the window frame apart. Woo hoo I got to use my muscles.

The front of the house all painted and pretty now. We even installed new outside lights for when I take the dogs out at night and a new light inside the front porch. I just have to stain the molding around the sliding glass doors to match everything else.

Mondays pictures. That is the molding up around the window before I stained it all and my shelf that will be replacing my kitchen table and will also double as a cat sleeping spot (if they ever come out) and be a little breakfast nook deal. Bf says it looks like I have a drive thru window LOL.

Our living room, we rearranged it yesterday after we took the computer desk out. Now the whole area flows alot better.

Standing in the kitchen looking out to the hallways. Hehe Im watching Hairspray today...Its my cheezy movie marathon day.

The front room that has our good kitchen table in it and the wood stove it also has the big bookshelf BF made for me last year out of rough cut barn wood. We just cut the hole out of the top for the air conditioner and window.

And my kitchen all with all the wood and molding stained. You cant see it very well though because of the glare from the window. Im going to get some better pictures after I finish the last little bit of staining and get the kitchen table moved to the spare room. The last thing left now is painting the wall that the window is on off white to match the living room and then the other wall that faces towards the front room will stay dark paneling to match that half of the house.

After 3 days of busting my hump to get this all done Im very happy with the way it turned out. At some point Ive added to my wish list of hopefully replacing atleast the doors to the cabinets with something a little nicer. The ones we have are like cheap particle board with that veneer finish and they are all beat up and gross. My idea is to get more furring strips and 2x4s and make our own doors and stain them to match the molding. Oh and I dont know where this is all available but in Central Pa if you have PPL as your electric company the Selingrove Wal Mart is running a PPL sponsered sale on energy efficient light bulbs a 6 pack is only $5.88 a box. We replaced all the lights in our house with those so hopefully these are worth the cost and help out our electric bill LOL....

Thanks for letting me overload you with tons of pictures...Have a great day. Ill probably post some more as I get some more work done and get the kitchen cleaned up the rest of the way!!!

Very nice. I think your window looks perfect placed side to side as opposed to up and down.

We replaced our windows last Fall. I too took pictures while leaning outside the openings, to get pics of the debris below. Made a huge mess, but was well worth it.

Very nice. I'm sure you are relieved that its all done. I know some people don't like "practical" gifts but I do. I'd take a remodel over yet another bottle of perfume any day.
I see Franklin is checking out the new arrangements. I think he approves.

You guys did a great job. I am the same way and want to help and love to have practical gifts. And for our anniversary gifts we always get something we can use together like new furniture or something for the house. Your hubby did a great job on the outside too and nice that he added lights for you and the dogs.

Thanks everyone.

BF is handy to have around he could probably build a house from the ground up and in the same weekend build a brand new car. He can do anything from basic fixing of stuff to electrical and plumbing work. Not to mention the work he can do on cars. If only he could fix my car out of all the stuff we have replaced Bertha is still throwing fits and now her favorite thing to do is not start and its not the starter going bad. Oh well cuz by the weekend Bertha is going to go to car heaven in the back yard at the garage till we decide if we are going to keep her for 3 yrs from now or if we are going to sell her.

I am ready for some more home improvment work. We are still debating on if we want to combine the cat and spare room into one large bedroom or split the spare room in half and add the one half to the cat room and the other half to the bathroom to make the bathroom bigger cuz right now Max can barely fit in it. That will be the next huge project once we decide what we want to do. Well that and the last large window we have its either going in the hallway to make it seem bigger and more spacious or its going in the bedroom. Personally Id rather not have any windows in the bedroom cuz I cant stand waking up at sunrise to a blinding sun in my eyes. Id be happy with no windows LOL...Darn bf wont sleep on the side with the windows for the same reason I dont like them LOL.

The new window and other improvements look great!! I think the window looks "correct" with it turned long-ways like it is. And I must admit, guys that can use power tools and build stuff are kind of a turn-on for me! LOL You're a lucky gal!
