It got to the point where I had asked for help so many times without a response I just gave up and quit trying. |
There is no excuse for those teachers, most teachers I know want students like you, kids that "want" to learn and ask for help. It is rewarding for both the teacher and student when that light goes off and you reach success. I commend you for not giving up and working hard.

DH has gotten kids in his HS algebra classes that can't count, do simple addition and subtraction, have no clue how to measure or use rulers. Forget multiplication or long division and fractions. These kids are expected to pass state testing and when they don't the high schools and high school teachers are blamed. It starts in elementary school and if they don't have basic skill by the time they are in middle school they are lost. For some reason I cannot understand school districts, administration, the DOE and the government cannot grasp this concept. You cannot just "pass" kids along and then hope by the time they reach high school they can catch up.
And now with our lowering status in the world regarding education instead of trying to improve the system from the ground up they are increasing school funding cuts, clamoring for more testing and attacking teachers.
This whole "no child left behind" thing is so dumb. If you don't have the "buy-in" of the children and parents it is impossible to implement and you can't continue to blame teachers, they can only do so much and you can't just "pass along" elementary school children who can't do the work. It isn't fair to anyone, especially the kids. I don't think it is just parents that are self centered in these cases it is also the administration the pass these kids so they "look good" and let it be someone else's problem.
sorry for the rant.
