| That is very kind of you to do that for the kitties. I do crochet and have made numerous scarves, shawls, blankets, etc...never occurred to me to make them for animals. Do you use regular yarn or a heavier cotton type? The way Ike paws at his blankets before he lies down, he'd pull apart anything I crocheted. I bet a cotton yarn, tightly stitched, about the size of a dishcloth would be sturdy enough...

| I bet something along the lines of Bernat Softee Chunky would be a good weight also. I crocheted a blanket for a friends cat and used the Softee Chunky yarn because her cat is a scratched and needed something thick for her. Shes had the blanket since April and its still holding up good. I would love to do something like that for my local shelter but they wont accept that kind of stuff...I tried to donate blankets, sheets and towels that I didnt want anymore to them and they refused to accept them. Why I couldnt tell you, I even asked if they needed volunteers to help clean cages for the dogs or cats and they said they dont accept volunteers. Maybe Ill be able to find a shelter thats a little further away that will accept donations like that. I have a jillion skeins of yarn that I have no plans for so it wouldnt be a big deal to make some blankies. |

| I wonder why your local shelter wouldn't accept the blankets, towels and volunteers? Oh well. It warms my heart to read in this thread that many of you are donating essentials to your local shelters. A big thank you to you all.

| What a neat idea! I like to do stuff with my hands as well (and can do basic knitting), but don't pick it up very often because I can only use so much of it in my house. This is a great idea! I'll try to find my stuff and then this winter, when I start to go into a form of mild hibernation, I'll have something productive to do! |

| Here are my latest blankets (22 of them) that I will be delivering to the shelter some time this week. I am also making an oversized scarf (I like a scarf to cover my neck and shoulders) that is so pretty that I may end up giving it to someone for x-mas...but I am tempted to keep it for myself.

| Those blankets are beautiful!!!! I used to knit blankets all of the time during my teens, but I stopped because of my CTS. I've been itching to pick it up again, but am all admiration of people who do these huge projects in no time at all. ![]() What is the red thing at the bottom of the picture?

| The red thing is an oversized scarf (40 stitches across for those who are wondering). The pic does not do the colour justice. I so wish I had picked up more of this yarn.

| Wow those look great!! I haven't had time to get started yet, getting myself and the house organized, etc. Now that the cold weather is starting to show up I'm getting more antsy to get started again with my knitting projects! |
