Happened to me recently. I'm doing the Bark for Life walk to raise funds for the American Cancer Society (walking with my golden), and I got exactly ONE response to my post. I understand that times are tough and not everybody can donate to every cause, but a bit of encouragement would have been nice. I have donated to many causes/walks/fundraisers supported by forum members, and encouraged others if I couldn't donate. The lack of response makes me think no one cares, so why should I?

No offense to anyone but it definitely has somewhat to do with who made the post too. Certain people could say "yum ice cream" and get 50 replies in minutes, while others could be asking for help and not be able to find something in a search, but because it was asked before people don't want to be bothered with it. I can understand that if it's a question about what food to feed or a problem behavior, but a health issue is a little different.

I had a similar incident last night with a question about a problem neuter. I was so worried and upset about my dog. I did get one quick reply before it fell out of sight for good letting me know something similar had been posted recently (thankfully) and I knew it had but couldn't find it for the life of me. After all in an emergent moment who has time to sit and do searches. I just needed a little reassurance from someone that had been through it before and I know many had because I have read them, but not remembering who I couldn't find them quickly.

We did end up at the emergency vet just 6 hours after seeing his regular vet and we are still having trouble, I wasn't looking for an internet site to treat my dog, just a comment or 2 from someone who may have had a similar experience so I could determine if we should go or wait it out till morning, or even help link me to a thread.

Bumping up is used to bring a post to the attention of people who might be able to help with a problem. so even if you cant perhaps help with the problem yourself you might just post on the thread Bumping up or sorry I cant help but hope someone will see this thread which then puts it back at the top stats.
Hmmm not sure I have explained very well.

Lucky's Mom

Can you copy and paste the topic you are referring to here.

Don't feel bad. My posts have been passed by attimes, too, or I'll just get a couple of replies.

Also, more people go in some threads then the others. For instance, probably more people go in Main Discussion than in Golden Ret. Rescue Cases-Golden Ret. Rescue Cases is where I spend a great deal of time, but everyone is different.

Hi Lucky's Mom, I did notice you'd been away, glad you're back. I've been very busy and really only check in with GRF to keep up with Deb & Selka right now. I scroll through the pages of Threads but don't have the time to respond to many. It's summertime, so maybe members will start spending more time here once the kids are back in school and life gets back to normal...I know I will. There are MANY new members that I've not yet met and hope to very soon.

I remember the same thing being said each of the last 2 summers that I've been frequenting the Forum. I'm sure it's just that it's summer and we're all busy with other things.

I understood you perfectly, Tracey Sometimes just posting "bumping up" is enough to let someone know they're not being ignored. And then it's a good heads up to others that the community here is also wanting a response, not just the original poster.

My observation as well.....there have been times I've seen a number of posts regarding the same issue.....the more well known person on the forum has 3 pages of posts....the not so well known person has 2 posts. It is frustrating....the forum is a place for Golden lovers to get together to discuss our mutual loves, adventures, brags, etc....it's just unfortunate when nobody seems to care when your dog has done something to make you proud..but the dog on the next thread has done the same thing and everyone thinks he or she is wonderful.

I think it depends so much on circumstances. There have been days when things have been quiet/uneventful here at home where I've been able to read and respond to so many posts. Then there are days at a time when I've barely had time to check my email, let alone get much on here. There have been many times when I've felt intimidated to post, because I don't have as much experience as so many others here. I also don't typically post if I disagree with something that has been said (I steer clear of conflict!), go with "Live and let live."

I've also shamelessly bumped my own posts - I worry about annoying people, but I figure maybe someone just didn't see it that could have replied/posted. I give people the benefit of the doubt and trust that they are doing/responding when and if they can - but it's always nice to see lots of responses to threads. I'll try to make more of an effort as well!

When you are gone for a while a zillion pages come up. And its easy to spot the posters that got 0 posts. So.....seeing 10 among 60 pages of threads....maybe that isn't so bad. Maybe it is.....

I might have over reacted some because I don't think it is easy for someone who is consistantly posting to be aware of threads that for whatever reason dropped off.

I was just thinking that if someone is new or fairly new...having a post ignored would be reason enough for them to not come back and they may not feel comfortable bumping up.

I don't expect people to get the same amount of posts....I suppose last night I was thinking how those posters felt who received no acknowledgement.

I truly hope it works out well for your boy and am sorry for the low response rate. I once had a similar issue (swollen groin and leg) after a neuter and went to the E Vet - stayed home for a week nursing my guy back to health. Neuters may be 'routine' but they can still cause problems.
I also think Friday nights might be a tough time for responses.
