Ah Mayve, I am so sorry to hear your news. Prayers for you and your department to all find new and rewarding employment opportunities! Truth be told and I am sure you know, the "elderly" population is about to explode -- not called Boomers for nothing! Cutbacks in healthcare facilities are just going to get worse thanks to government.... Blah blah blah!
Something great will come your way! . So sorry you have to go through it all!

Sorry to hear that! Hope you will find something soon that you like at least as much.

In the meanwhile, enjoy the extra time to play with Sage

Mayve: I am so very sorry about your job, but I bet you will find something!
I agree with you. I'm grateful that I'm the one that lost her job and it wasn't my husband.

Thanks for the support it means a lot. I hesitated to say anything as I know there are many worse off than me and this economy really stinks.

The hardest part is saying goodbye to clients I've been with for over 4 years. I have been doing this the last few weeks as some have already left for different companies and others were staying with us till the end before they switched. My one main client was also just diagnosed with terminal cancer. UGH! What a time to have to switch caregivers. I plan on staying involved with her on a personal level as we have become very close, but ultimately I will have to say goodbye and probably sooner rather than later.

Well I suppose I should check out a few posts and head off to work for the last time. Part of me would like to go back to bed hike up the covers and sleep the day away.

That is so wonderful that you will still be involved on a personal level with your terminally ill client! I'm sure that will mean so much to her!

It really is for both of us. I can't imagine not being there for her. We have been through so much in the last four years!

Last year we lost my father in law. He had a bad fall off his bed a couple years ago and he went down the hill since then. We opted to place him with my sister in law and pay her and two other ladies (nurse practitioners) to stay with him since he needed 24 hour monitoring. When his colon shut down they still went and stayed with him at the hospital.
No hospital, nursing home could have given him the care and attention he received from these ladies. During the funeral we asked them to sit with the family since they became part of our family during those three years.
The reason I am posting this is that maybe you could check with your local churches and even the hospital sometimes has a referral list for caregivers in home. The ladies we hired worked out their own schedule and connected with us and eachother.

Sorry about your job loss. This is a continuation of what's been happening with health care for a while in some ways, and a precursor of what's to come in others. Very troubling times are ahead.
