I'm very sorry for your loss. Remember to try to get some rest. I know how exhausting this will be.

This statement speaks volumes about your MIL and your entire post speaks volumes about you, Joyce. I'm thinking the world lost a good one this week - but now you have a wonderful angel looking over you, and also, we need more people like you. Bless you for being so good to her and for being open to continue Bentley's career as a therapy dog. I'll be praying for your strength.

When she went into the nursing home it broke my heart to see how many people live there that never have any visitors, not even family. I vowed that would never happen to her so I always went to see her every morning and DH went every evening.

After Bentley had his vax I started taking him with me every morning. Ma loved dogs and she talked me into taking Ky up to visit her once but I never took her again because as we walked down the halls it was like watching the seas part. Everyone backed up against a wall or went into a room to avoid being near Ky.

Ma was "training" Bentley. She was something of a rock star in the NH because she had visitors everyday and a PUPPY!!! She took great joy in "teaching" Bentley a new trick then showing him off to all of her friends. They thought she was an amazing dog trainer Of course when we got home I would have to start teaching him that trick right away, luckily for me Bentley wasn't great at the tricks right off the bat so he made just enough mistakes to make Ma believe that she really was training him.

We had to stop at the NH this afternoon for paperwork. It was heartbreaking when one of Ma's best friends said, "I guess this means we'll never see Bentley again". I told her of course Bentley has to keep coming because Ma would want them to continue training him in her absence. I will take a few days but then it will continue to be our morning routine, Ma would love that!

Sorry for rambling. I just miss her so.
Yes, in honor of your mother-in-law, please continue to bring Bentley. My aunt is in a nursing home and my cousin brings her dog all the time, not just for my aunt, but for everybody else. It really makes there day, it also gives them something to talk about with each other and their visitors.

The nursing home actually had one of the staff members actually tried to have a dog to live there for a couple months, but one of the residents got very possessive of it that caused some issues, so the dog went permanently home with a staff member.

Hugs!

Just seeing this now . . . Joyce, so sorry for your loss. Please take care. It is so nice that you will continue to share Bentley with the residents at the nursing home.

Thank you all. We've been making funeral arrangements all day so I completely forgot that Carol (the girl that saved Ky) was coming today. My brother said she came and he had no doubt that Ky remembered her. He couldn't get a hold of me so he made an executive decision and let Carol take Ky for a walk. I would have said yes too. I'm just sorry I missed her. She left a note and said she'll try to stop again after her tour of the college.
