So sorry that happened, but very glad to hear that you're alright. And yes, it is often the brand-new cars that get whacked by total idiots!

Golden retrievers think life is a party thrown especially for them

I'm glad you are okay, but sorry about the new truck. I feel your pain. I was driving my son's new Mercedes and a BMW backed into it. The guy's insurance paid for it, but it is never the same.

Be sure that you discuss depreciation due to the wreck. Insurance should give that to you.

Thank you all so much for your replies! The people on this forum truly are the kindest folks on the net.

First off, Janice: I don't know how I missed the thread about your accident, but I'm so sorry that happened to you, and so glad you and the pups are ok - especially poor Gabby! How frightening! It's a real bummer that your car is a write-off, but as you say, cars can be replaced. I hope you are all recovering well.

Yes, thankfully I'm unhurt and so is the van driver. (Anne: it's a cube van belonging to a construction company. ) He is insured, and despite the fact that Ontario has a no-fault insurance system, it will be his insurance rates going up, not mine. And he was charged by the police. Poor guy - I feel kind of sorry for him. He wasn't intoxicated or anything. Just a guy who lost focus at the end of his workday and made a mistake.

Toby wasn't in the truck with me, thank goodness. His pet porter would have been right there, on the driver side back seat where the guy hit. I'm so thankful my boy was safely at home! And yes, it does seem that these things always happen with new vehicles, and I seem to be a particular magnet. A couple of years ago, when my SUV was new, I got rear-ended. I was stopped at a red light minding my own business, and a guy plowed into the back of me and pushed me clear across the intersection. Speeding on wet roads, couldn't stop. I like the bubble wrap idea.

My truck isn't totaled, but it's badly damaged. No, ArcticCat, it isn't a Ford. It's a 2012 Dodge Ram 2500 crew cab, Longhorn Edition, Cummins Turbo Diesel, and it's a beauty. It recently pulled me, Toby and an 8000 lb. travel trailer across Canada, through the Rockies all the way to Tofino and back without breaking a sweat. I love this truck. It will be fixed but it sure is a sorry sight now.

I'm so sorry about your truck, but so thankful you weren't hurt. Still, aggrevating to say the least. HUGS.

I'm so glad your ok!!!!!

*whew*

Accidents are the worst! It'll be amazing once your beauty gets fixed up and looks like herself again.

Your right, it always happens when the cars new. I hope this story brings a smile to your face.....

So I spent 2 years convincing my DH that we should trade his gas hog in for a sedan. Not a month after getting the sedan (granted it was a used car, but totally new to us), I was frazzled from planning my BFF's wedding (and also sleep deprived) and accidentally backed the car into a tree!!! Nobody to blame but myself but omg I was so shook up. I slammed into the tree so hard, it lost two buckets of seed casings. I cried and cried and cried because I knew I had to tell my DH that I ruined his brand new car. My co-workers kept telling me "it'll be ok. He's just going to make sure your fine." Then finally, after 5 hours of anticipation (cause he was at work without contact) I got ahold of him and asked him to come to work because I had to show him something. Turns out, he didn't care that the car was damaged or that I did it from being distracted and brain dead. All he cared about was that I was ok. Whew! Insurance fixed the car and didn't even raise our rates (luckily) but it was a life lesson for me. At the time I wasn't playing with my phone or fiddling with the radio, I just didn't double check what gear i was in and my accelerator was a tad touchy. Now we're always triple checking things while driving, and never with distractions.

Ironically, six months later, my DH plowed through a sofa that fell off a truck in the middle of a freeway on ramp. No shoulder, with a car right next to him. Totally ruined the front end. I laugh now, and told him were even. Thankfully he wasn't hurt at all. But that 3 am call took years off my life.

Sorry to hear about you and your truck! I'm glad nobody was injured, but I know the sick feeling you get looking at your truck with major damage.
