Frustrated with Kijiji and Craiglist Ads

It seems too easy for people to purchase puppies from sites like Kijiji and Craiglist. The lack of responsible breeding and uninformed puppy buyers is running ramped and something must be done.

I have some ill desire to look on these sites and each time I get the same results – anger mixed with disgust, frustration and sadness for the animal.

There are also so many listings for owners selling their animal or trading them… it makes me sick! Tonight for instance I saw a posting for a 3 month old puppy (who looks terrified) they ‘just want our money back’ because ‘we don’t have time for a puppy right now and it doesn’t get along with their dog’. Really?!!? REALLY?!!?!? ARRRRRRRRRRRGHH!!!! These Kijiji puppies are the same dogs that a few months down the road are up for adoption at a Shelter or Rescue or sometimes a worse fate.

Can something be done!?!? We need responsible and caring breeders and owners. How can we educate the public?

This is what responsible breeders are doing now, trying to educate the public on the dangers of buying from a person who threw two dogs together, to make some money.

A lot of people don't do their homework on buying a puppy from a breeder. They don't know about health clearances that need to be done, etc. We all start somewhere in dogs, whether we get a dog from a backyard breeder, or from a puppy mill. We learn from our mistakes, do our homework and research a bit more vigorously, and find the dog of our dreams.

This is just what makes us human. I have learned so much with my first dog, I could write a novel on it.

You're absolutely correct. I don't mean to offend anyone who has bought or found a dog though Kijiji or Craiglist. I have purchased a dog from a BYB before I was a member to this forum. I truely do not mean to offend or pass any judgment onto others, especially the great people on this forum.

My frustration comes from people purchasing puppies without fully understanding or committing to the idea of rasiing and having this puppy in their lives for the next 10-15 years and selling it as if it was an old peice of furniture when they get bored of it. This is a big problem. I appreciate that breeders are raising awareness about this issue. I just hope that people will realise the benefits of educating themselves before they purchase an animal. Do you think it might be possible that Kijiji and Craiglist could post a listing or type of notice that could inform viewers of key puppy buying? Like Do's and Dont's of puppy buying? or are you really ready for a puppy?
