| The worse gift I've ever received was a holiday dish towel, complete with stains. I can understand possibly being caught off guard when given a gift, but that's one of the reasons I always keep a couple breads, boxes of candy or small wrapped gifts on hand during the holiday season. A funny gift given/received at my club gift exchange was a straw hat with long, red yarn braids attached (think...Anne of Green Gables). This isn't a gag gift exchange either! The lucky recipient left it at my house (the party was here) when she went home. |

| The worst gift I got was when I was about 14 from a beloved aunt that did not have much money. It was a small ceramic toilet that was filled with a candle and believe it or not, my gift was one of the better gifts she gave that year.

| Worst Gift - Multiple years I received crappy gifs from a relative...they liked to give some of us nice things and the one they didn't care for that year received obviously cheap crap. One year my brothers and their wives all received lovely well thought out gifts. I received grocery store free with purchase glasses. My husbands name was written on it as an afterthought while the other married in spouses received something lovely. I tried to be gracious and move on but then the jerks started comparing how much they time and money spent on the others vs. ours to us...it was awkward and hurtful. When we got home, my husband decided we should lobb them into the empty dumpster one by one, best satisfaction and stress relief I ever felt! That year marked the end of the annual gift exchage with those relatives, everyone was embarrassed! It's such a releif to not have to spend hours shopping for someone just so they can treat you like crap! Jenn, Murphy and Sassy Saffron

| It is nice to read about other families that go through this. When I first met my husbands family, it was on Christmas. I didn't expect any gift because I didn't know any of them but most of them gave my daughter and I lovely gifts. One sister gave me an opened bag of coffee. I couldn't believe it and thought it must have been a gag so the following year I wrapped the same coffee and gave it back. They didn't understand why I would give them an opened bag of coffee until my husband explained that it was the same coffee that they had given me the previous year. (I guess it wasn't meant to be a gag). Since that time, I too, have put a stop to the whole gift exchange with the entire family. We now only buy for the children and make a donation to a charity, church or mission. |

| My boyfriend's father passed when my boyfriend was 13. His family still celebrated christmas with his father's side of the family because his parents had been married many years and, of course, the kids were related. After his father passed away, though, things got very different. All of his cousins received gifts like ipods, computers, etc., and every year his family all received cheap soap. Not like, bath and body works. Like, Dial brand cheap soap. One bar each. I know it's not MY story, but they were horrible gifts. Needless to say they no longer celebrate Christmas there. I found the whole ordeal pretty heartbreaking. |

| One year my husband gave me gift that he thought was awesome and he was so excited to give it to me. It was brand new floor mats for my car. They were nice floor mats but really? I know he meant well ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

| I had a boyfriend get me a scale for Christmas one year back in college. I think I weighed 102# at the time! Not sure what that was all about. Had a different boyfriend's sister give me a cheap plastic onion dicer. I couldn't even bear to re-gift it. Most awkward gift are ones from employees. I wish they would save their money and spend it on their families and just say Merry Christmas to me. I'd be very happy with just that. |

| Well, I would not call any gift a worst gift, because it is the thought that counts. Some people have different tastes, some people just want to give something to be giving something and don't put a lot of effort behind it and some people go all out and know you perfectly and what to get
