| Kindle recommendations? Penny's dad loves to read. I'm thinking about getting him a Kindle sort of thing. I don't think he would use it for anything other than recreational reading...namely books. I think it should be lighted. And I wonder if they come with adjustments for the type size...like can it be made bigger? What do you like ?

| I have one of the old original Kindles and I LOVE it. It does not have a lighted screen.....the screen reads like real print. But I find that to be much easier on my eyes than a lit screen. It's really only good for reading. If you want apps, and good internet access, then get the Fire or a tablet computer like the iPad. But if all he's going to do is read, the regular Kindle is great. You can adjust the font size on it very easily. Handy feature to have. I would also recommend one with the wi-Fii access so you can download anywhere, instead of having to plug in to download. I love when I'm on a car trip and finish a book, I can immediately download the next book in the series without having to wait. LOL!

| I got a Kindle last month, it's the basic one, didn't want anything with too many features on it, wanted it simple. Really like being able to adjust the Font size, very helpful, useful for me. I ended up buying a Belkin Router for Wifi Access so I could down load books whenever I wanted to instead of converting my Internet Acces to Wifi through my ISP because my home phone service is also through my ISP provider. |

| Mine is the older kindle keyboard with 3G... I LOVE IT ... I am getting my husband one this year but I am getting him the basic kindle... he doesn't need the 3G as I already have that on mine and there are very few places that we couldn't find wifi at this point not like when I got mine and honestly I don't want the lighted screen... I would rather attach a clip on light and replace that for a few bucks if it breaks than the backlit where if there is a problem with that the whole kindle needs to be replaced. I have heard that some of the paperwhite ones have had some weird effects on the screen. I don't like the fire because of the glare on the screen.

| Thanks for the benefits of your experiences. Sounds like just a basic kindle will do just fine. I like the suggestions about being able to download anywhere. He has said he doesn't want one..but he says that to everything. I just plow ahead and in the end, he usually is glad I did. He loves mysteries and we have SO MANY BOOKS of the type that is read just once. I should order it soon so I can download a book on it for him. Thanks again.

| I have 2 Kindles, thanks to an accident with the concrete in a parking lot. My first, the old Kindle keyboard 3G is my favorite. Unfortunately it dropped out of my purse as I was getting Toby out of the car for an ophthalmology appointment--my fault, not Toby's- should have been more careful. It completely blanked out. I got home, felt sorry for myself and my hubby ordered me a Touch, with the ads, which is basic. I think he did it to make me feel better because he was tired of me feeling sorry for myself- he's a great guy! Anyway, I kept on working on the 3G and finally brought it to life again. A few weeks ago I flew and used it in the plane and it kept on freezing, so I guess I'll go with the Touch more now. You might consider the new one with the lighted background for $119. Paperwhite is the name I think. It's battery is supposedly longer than the others. I can increase font size and spacing with both the Kindles I have an assume it can be done on the others. Many public libraries have download to Kindle options for books and there are a few freebie Kindle give aways to snag some great reads. BTW, where have you been? We missed you! |

| I use the Nook with Glow Light from Barnes and Noble. Have been very happy with it. The built in light is very convenient, nothing extra to carry around. It is very light, easy to use. Fonts are adjustable and the battery lasts a long time. You can get service and advice at any Barnes and Noble store. |
